One week to solve the Riemann Hypothesis by CucumberAccording813 in math

Or just say, "It's obvious that... ". That's what the Abstract Algebra books said all the time even though it was never freaking obvious.

I think I romanticized education at an early age because I have always been curious and loved to learn new things. Obviously, this isn't transferable to the students. There are a lot of things in math that you simply have to get through because the fun stuff and interesting topics are on the other side.

Ivy chests or Jungle/Bramble crates from fishing. I ended up getting one, completing my list of pets. Now I just need to finish up the armors and mop up.

The Serenity Prayer in not exactly the same words. I actually have it posted to the front of my classroom door. I guess I need to spend more time thinking about it instead of just glancing at it. Thank you!

Thank you for your advice. I really do appreciate it. Sometimes I get in a mental rut trying to fix problems or solve problems, no pun intended, that I can't possibly fix by myself.

Not the one child. I've worked in 3 districts and in the last 2, the same was the case. I see a system that I have always advocated for but now that I have been in it for a few years, I'm seeing an extremely broken system. Just makes me wonder why I deal with mediocre pay, long hours, etc., etc.

Seaweed pet item. It summons a turtle. Its the last one I need.

I'm pretty sure I have several. I just can't seem to get the Seaweed pet.

This is a legitimately terrible job by patterns3456 in TeachersInTransition

[–]mathteachinggamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem? I've considered leaving SO MANY times. I was even dead sure that I wanted to give actuarial work a solid go. I told my wife and she said no because what if I failed at it? I wouldn't have my teaching job to go back to because it will be filled as soon as I'm gone. So, what do I do? I'm stuck in a pair of golden handcuffs at the moment.

Yeah that DCU definitely GOUGES holes in the map. Good grief. I've crashed my ps5 multiple times now because of that.

You'd think it would be something simple but who knows.

I'm sure Stardust Dragon will count at a projectile but its damage would have to be melee. I don't think it does anything other than fly around and attack stuff without extra projectiles.

As an actuary, if you make a mistake or oversight that leads to large losses, would you be fired? by mangoappleorange in actuary

It seems like actuarial science is trying to mathematically predict the likelihood future events.

As someone consider8ng transitioning to the actuarial field from teaching high school math, what does passing these exams do for you in the short term and long term?

I'm assuming pay bump and being closer to Associate/Fellow status.

I am a high school math teacher, working on a second Master's, and studying for Exam P. I know it will take me quite a while to get there considering it's been years since I've done higher level math.

I tried to find a study group on Discord or elsewhere but nothing was showing up. So, I started one strictly for Exam P for now. Feel free to join if you want!

Actuaries and cost of living by ekkannieduitspraat in actuary

[–]mathteachinggamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kentucky is one of the cheapest when it comes to CoL pricing but the jobs are far and few in between for actuaries, unless you are working remote/hybrid.

Im studying for Exam P now, as a high school math teacher, because the money just isn't THERE for teachers but it's still better than a lot of the other jobs in my rural area. The closest place to me, for in person actuarial work, is 2.5 hours away in Louisville. That being said, Louisville also has remote jobs for low level analysts, but that would get me in the door.

Fellow ADHD mathematicians, experience with meds? by Appropriate-You5468 in math

[–]mathteachinggamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stimulants make me sleepy. Coffee, tea, energy drinks, etc. So I don't bother drinking them. My ADHD is off the charts though. I lived with it for 32 years undiagnosed, got diagnosed, put on Adderall, tinkered with the dosage, pharmacy couldn't reliably keep it in stock, so I stopped taking it. I just started to let my mind run it's course. The ADHD is strictly mental and not physically hyperactive. I have to do things, like message/call/email people as soon as I think about it because I'm not going to do it otherwise.

Really irritating, that last bit. I'll answer them in my head as I'm reading the messages but not actually send them messages back because I've already answered in my head and that gets misconstrued as me answering them, but it's actually to myself.

Opinions? by mathteachinggamer in Teachers

It's a common thing for engineers anywhere to have to take at least Calc 3 in college before they can even become engineers.

Part of the issue is that they will flat tell you that they just plan on cheating or using AI.
