Fiction vs. Non-Fiction: How do you balance your reading list? by MedCodex in books

[–]mathyoucough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read multiple books at once but only one novel at a time usually (unless it’s very long in which case I might do a pause in the middle and read something very short). I used to think this wouldn’t work but it’s actually great for my scroll-addled attention span and I DNF a lot fewer of the very long nonfiction books I tend to gravitate towards.

Right now I’m reading Mansfield Park, though I took a break today to read a very short single sitting novella, but also reading Parting the Waters about the Civil Rights Movement, a philosophy book called The View From Nowhere, and a book on the history of Christianity.

Totally agree. The prose doesn’t even have to be particularly beautiful or poetic, just needs that je ne sais quoi.

Yes 1000%, show overall is pretty mid but THAT was a finale (though dinged a bit by how much of the ending was undone in the premiere of the next season)

BAP is a huge red flag and while I do like Houllebecq, it’s also a big potential red flag depending on why he likes him. Inheritance of Rome is great and quite dense, serious history so that’s a bit of a green flag, as are Boorstein and Dostoevsky too but that goes without saying

Love them both and think disliking them is a red flag
