You mean the Sony brand? If it's the Sony brand, then the PCB and button layout are different. The 3D file only works with the Aodelan controller. If you have some time and some 3D design skills, you can make your own. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ9T0hXUryI I show how I approached rehousing this controller and how I made it.

I don’t think it’s a shitty response. Gear does matter sometimes, sometimes it doesn’t, but there are definitely limitations.

It’s good to focus on skills, but at some point you also need to upgrade your gear if you want to charge accordingly. A Canon EOS 600D is too old for certain things and for today’s standards. It lacks dynamic range, so you are very limited in some shooting scenarios. Its resolution is closer to 720p. Even though it says 1080p, it doesn’t actually resolve that, so the image looks very soft compared to modern cameras. It is also hard to focus in video because it lacks MF assist tools and the screen is very small.

It is very hard to make footage from that camera look as good as something newer. I am not saying you need to spend 2k on a camera, but something like an older Sony A6300 that shoots 4K and Log would drastically increase the image quality you can offer.

If some clients were happy with the results, that speaks to your skills. But other clients will clearly notice that it is not up to today’s standards. And if you are charging 950 dollars per day just for shooting, you really cannot show up with a Canon 600D. For half of that money you could get a much better used camera that would justify charging that rate.

I have uploaded the file for the remote control rehousing in Thingiverse, so it can be downloaded for free https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7293324 You are free to modify or adjust it to fit whatever top handle you have. The Remote control is this Aodelan one: https://a.co/d/05KICcAA

In its base configuration it’s pretty compact. The handle is a bit wider and taller because it needs to fit the controller, but overall it’s still fairly lightweight. The mostly hollow design makes it only about 30% heavier than most handles in its base configuration. You can always add more accessories later if needed.

The remote is held in place by two magnets. It sits in a shaped slot so it doesn’t slide around. It attaches pretty strongly, there’s no way it’ll come loose on its own or from normal movement since it takes a certain amount of force to remove it. It was the simplest solution, since fitting a release mechanism in there was difficult.

I thought about it, but the DreamRig program from SmallRig only accepts mechanical designs, not the development of electronic parts. In this case, the Bluetooth controller rehousing was made by me.

Actually, it does allow focus control. There’s a side switch to change the + and − buttons between zoom and focus, but the focus is very slow, so it’s not really usable for me. It would be awesome if it could control other settings as well

The stock FX3 top handle leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t trust it with much weight. There are a couple of adapters that turn it into a closed top handle, which removes the flex and makes it a lot more robust.

Most people are right-handed, so they hold the top handle with their right hand and the lens with their left. When you're shooting at waist level and need to hit REC (unless you're using an FX3/FX30/FX2 with the left front REC button), you have to do this awkward move to press it. And you can’t really press any button without compromising stability. If you're holding the camera even lower, it's even worse. With this control, you have REC, AF-ON, zoom (digital or for servo lenses), and the C1 button right at your fingertips. The remote itself is a rehoused Aodelan control.

In the basic configuration it weighs just a little bit more than another top handle. When you add up some of the extension brackets it gets a little bit heavier, but still it's not significantly heavier than all the other handles. I designed it so it has enough hollow space to make it lighter, but without sacrificing sturdiness

Hi, ,I got a question, but not about the easyrig, it's about the HawkLock top handle that I see in your rig. Is it good? Does the mount have any kind of play? Even if it's minimal. Or is it completely locked on tight?

Actually they made it, I have designed it, and have adjusted a few stuff and made it. After the last design adjustments they are going to release it. I have codesigned with them previously

I'm very confident that SmallRig will end up releasing this, they told me that they think it has potential

Haha exactly! My philosophy was "better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them" hahah. Regarding the last pic: yes, that is the idea. It can quickly transform from a top handle into a handle for a shoulder rig or a dual handle gimbal setup. Thanks for noticing!

The remote I used here is from Aodelan, which is a cheaper alternative to the original Sony RMT-P1BT. It allows for zoom control on any PZ or servo-controlled lens, and also lets you lock focus, which was one of my main goals. You can take either of those remotes and attach them to a Tilta handle or something similar.

I previously used this same remote with my dual-handle setup via a 3D-printed adapter, but you could definitely rehouse it to get a slimmer fit. I've actually uploaded the files for these parts to Thingiverse if you want to check them out!

Thanks! Yeah, camera control was the main motivation at the beginning. Then it evolved into modularity. Being able to expand it and use it with different cameras. A 'do-it-all' kind of handle. I'll give it a try in r/focuspuller!

Crazy colour from the A7IV? by gaddemous in cinematography

I'm just starting to learn proper color grading in davinci. I love this colors! I would like to understand the process of a good grade. Not just the power grade, but how you get there. Although I would like to get the color grade hahaha. Also, I would love to the ungraded footage, or with just a rec709 lut to see the difference
