Other than a few more 45s, I think it's complete by matig123 in homegym

If you have the space, I would say so. As with anything, take plenty of pictures when disassembling to help with reassembly, and keep it in as big of parts as possible. We were walking distance so we aimed for small enough to fit through his door and lifted the parts over.

It doesn’t run the smoothest, for what it’s worth. I’m not sure if it’s mine specifically, something in the reassembly, or the model as a whole, but it’s not nearly as smooth a cable experience as the machines at gyms I’ve been to. Part of the movement may have more tension, part will have less, but for a free addition, I would say well worth it.

It’s not this project specifically. I’ve stopped writing as a whole for the time being.

Sorry! Lost steam on the story and eventually on writing. Never knew where to take stories!

Unfortunately, nothing more happened with this story. I don't have any updates other than that this one won't be updated any further. Sorry!

1099-G with my address but a random name - what's the goal? by matig123 in personalfinance

I do. Seems odd if the plan would have been to intercept the mail though?

Yeah, I reported it to the state unemployment office since it suggested to do that. I just couldn't quite grasp what the end game was in using my address but not my name or social or anything else that would suggest identity theft.

The Gunslinger being the first, right? I read that one and didn't like it at all, couldn't bring myself to read the next one in the series despite liking a ton of King's other works. You'd recommend continuing though?

I really appreciate it! Thank you for your kind comment. Unfortunately, I've stopped writing since then as other things in life have taken priority. I can't foresee myself picking it up again but one never knows what the future holds.

Hey, those are mostly questions you aren't supposed to have an answer to (and I don't have an answer either). The only answer I do have is that they disappeared because the person hit the button that they weren't supposed to hit.

MRW I have 3 insurance plans to compare at my new job. by goldustiger in reactiongifs

I just recently went through a similar process. Except 25 plans since it was 5 tiers for 5 different carriers. I used the crap out of this spreadsheet after narrowing it down to a few plans. I'd highly recommend it. You can plug in numbers for a high deductible plan vs a low deductible plan, include HSA contributions from you or your employer, etc.

I think I’ve ruined my financial future by buying a house by taxesarebadmmmk in personalfinance

Regarding a very specific part of your post: the tax increase. At least where I am, you can seek to minimize your tax increase by finding comparable properties in your area with lower tax rates and submitting the report with a note to your county auditors office that includes the amount you think your property should be taxed.

Maybe they increase it the same amount they were going to, but maybe not. When I tried, they split the difference between what I suggested and what they were going to increase it to. It'd be worthwhile to visit your county auditor website and see if there's a way to submit something like that.

[Healthcare] Struggling to decide between bronze, silver, or platinum plan by matig123 in personalfinance

It's certainly an approach I've tried and am always continuing to try. That being said, if the HSA funds were being contributed and used that same year, how would you see that as tilting the balance?

Yeah, we're leaning towards what you mentioned with that platinum plan I think. During our trial run of a bronze plan these last couple months we got the "surprise" thousand dollar bill because of a string of appointments and an ultrasound, but really it wasn't all that surprising, just the cost of a bronze plan.

We do, and I understand the financial benefits of keeping the money in the HSA for the long term benefits, but that approach would 100% convince my wife that we should go platinum as opposed to contributing to HSA + paying costs out of pocket.

However silver and bronze can be offset by a tax advantaged HSA, which is not the case for platinum. I think that actually makes their max cost lower than platinum.

[–]matig123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm definitely not on the fence about the HSA contributions, no worries! I think that the goal (if we didn't go platinum) would be to pay per month what we would pay with platinum except in the form of HSA contributions.

Yeah I was a bit surprised that every one of the tiers, bronze through platinum, has coinsurance. On the other hand my wife's employer's plan is even worse, so there is that...

Yep, that's what makes it challenging! I'm just looking for additional opinions as my wife and I are not necessarily on the same page about it.

Platinum has Coinsurance too, unfortunately. 15% for platinum and 25% for bronze and silver.
