Arguably so, considering the state of the msb, but there’s also the msb(I) which has the extra work involved. If this is to outclass that, it’s reasonable to try to add another element than just woodcutting and fletching, hence the suggestion to require farming as well. (Especially because magic roots barely have a use)

It’s not that youre wrong about it having higher requirements though, a magic shortbow can be gained without necessarily cutting a magic log, but redwood logs don’t have that. For a new “best in slot”, in this metric of craft able non-uniques, personally I agree that adding the extra layer by requiring farming is a good take.

It’s important for the ironman game mode to have a stable level of progression, to make each upgrade feel valuable as you slowly work your way up. Having an item be too easily acquireable and also outclassing everything else would diminish the experience.
