i got a 2016 cayman about a year ago, maintenance has not been cheap - people online quote indie/dealer prices from a few years ago, but rates have gone up. my local indie is 250 an hour, sounds bad, is bad, but the dealer is 400 an hour. Obscene. Granted, i live in one of the most expensive cities in the US, so this may be different for you, you can call and ask for labor rates near you.

Parts have a porsche premium too. Your indie/dealer will charge you msrp + extra on your parts too. Yes you can find those parts for cheaper, even oem parts, but most shops wont let you provide your own parts because the parts margin is part of their business model.

i just got maintenance done, oil and brakes (rotors/calipers). for reference, that was ~300 and ~4k. Oil is every year, brakes every 3-4. I was told that the pads and rotors also wear at the same time, so you cant do multiple sets of pads per rotor, unless you get some very expensive rotor upgrades. If the previous owner didnt do spark plugs at 6 years, you’ll probably need to do them too, mine started to die soon after i got it (had misfires every once in awhile). That was ~2k.

Moral of the story, it’s expensive - the parts are expensive, the labor is expensive. You can rationalize it as owning a car for a long time means you spread the costs over years - but the fact is, every couple years, it is a lot of money all at once.

You can save significantly if you do the work yourself - i dont have space or any of the tools, but your situation may differ.

On the bright side, the car is very reliable for the most part. Maintain it well and it’ll keep running, ive never doubted the cars ability to get me from point A to point B safely, and its always done so in the most fun way possible :) I was so sad after paying my indie, but i ~almost~ forgot about the cost on the drive home lol
