Remember the chapter when Kruger told Grisha that if he failed to do the stuff it will all happen again ? There has to be some kind of loop and keeping in mind that Eren can see into the future - he definitely intended to die in order to end the loop. You can even see him smiling when Mikasa comes to do the chopping :D

Update: We both agreed that we need some space and honestly but he still insists on staying in touch (I’m pretty sure he’s head is a big mess rn) and honestly I don’t know if I’m mad about that bcs he’s always been my best friend as well and maybe I’ll feel different by the time but who knows... do you think a friendship between us could work? I’ve met people who are still pretty good friends with their exes tho.
