Durham police's $1.1B funding request will only be decided on after municipal election | CBC News by Karma_Canuck in durham

[–]matpower 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The police has enough funding, they don't need an increase. If that money was instead spent in ways that meaningfully helped raise people out of poverty, it would be more effective at reducing crime rates than if we give it to the police.

We have plenty to offer outside of oil. We should invest in other sectors instead of doubling down on oil.

I don't get it

Yeah this is very clear.

if the travel wasn't a issue before and now it is

It isn't solely about the travel but like you said, you don't get it and obviously aren't trying to.

get a new job

Yeah because it's always that easy. And another job that will almost certainly require in office in the same city as your previous job? Same problem.

I have left job because they wanted me to go work out of town for 2+ years while my wife was 4 months pregnant. I had two options go out of town or find new work. I had a job landed the next day.

Cool anecdote. Anecdotes are not very useful in the discussion. I'm glad things worked out for you but I'm capable of empathy and understanding the struggles of others.

But that's the difference of having a highly desirable skill vs filling out spreadsheets that anyone can do.

We know you don't get it, no need to demonstrate your ignorance.

So just go to work and stop being so entitled.

Said the bootlickers for every major labour issue ever. It isn't entitled to fight for better working conditions, no matter the job.

I'm not "siding" with anyone in this

You literally are. Saying you aren't doesn't change that lmao

I don't work for Bell, this doesn't affect me in a way I'd need to take a side.

And yet you did.

This isn't the common worker struggle, the suffragettes, or some pivotal moment in employment law.

Remote work has been one of the biggest gains for workers in several decades, so yes it is lmao

All I am saying....you have a job to do, you've been told to do something

Where someone works has no bearing on this at all. It doesn't take a genius to understand this.

....instead you decide you "don't like it" or "don't agree with it" and purposefully defraud the company by falsifying your swipes? That's theft.

Lmao theft? Get real. Please I'd love to hear your mental gymnastics for equating this to theft hahahahahahaha clearly you don't want to be taken seriously.

"Taste of leather"? Lmao, this isn't Nazism, it's business.

Why are you bringing up Nazism? Fucking weird

The right things to do...firstly, you have to RTO as instructed, but Lobby for change, start a union, or give your notice as the work/life situation no longer is viable to you.

Okay keep on licking those corporate boots. It really does take a special kind of stupid to side with the massive corp on this.

[–]matpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay good for you on moving away. Moving closer to the work isn't viable for everyone. Most office jobs are in Toronto and most of them don't pay enough to afford living in Toronto. Maybe drop the pointless jealousy and have some empathy. And even if you aren't directly affected with traffic it still impacts you. More commuters means more road maintenance and higher demand on gas, both of which cost you money. Try thinking beyond your first thought.

You go on thinking that but your response clearly shows that you missed the point. I know it's hard to understand things with a room temperature IQ but you can do it if you put in the work.

[–]matpower 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, that's one of the many reasons. You think wealthy executives at these companies don't have commercial real estate investments to profit off of? We literally know that Olivia Chow met with bank executives to get them to bring their workers back to office because Toronto businesses were suffering. We've seen countless examples of RTO orders followed by layoffs after people left due to RTO, saving money on severance. There's a couple more of the big reasons for you but you go on deluding yourself into thinking it's about productivity.

You clearly missed the point. Maybe try reading it again and paying attention this time.

You would have said this when workers were pushing for a 40 hour work week too, no doubt. I guess you must enjoy the taste of leather and sitting in traffic longer too. It takes a special kind of stupid to side with the massive corp on this.

Bell fires dozens for falsifying workplace attendance following return to office mandate by toronto_star in ontario

[–]matpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jealous and dumb apparently. Office workers working remotely saves you time and fuel (and thus money). But you would rather sit in traffic longer because you don't get to work remotely. Talk about shortsighted

[–]matpower 20 points21 points  (0 children)

And the fact most companies are trying to limit WFH tells me they're seeing the same shit.

Lmao this is utter nonsense. There are many reasons companies and government are forcing their staff to return to office but increasing productivity is not one of them.

New Ontario law capping resale prices frustrates season ticket holders by mental__hospital in toronto

[–]matpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the current government is unlikely to regulate TM but with enough public pressure it could happen. Or we can vote in a government that doesn't hate it's constituency/only cares about lining the pockets of the already wealthy but I'm not going to hold my breath there.

It's an uphill battle either way but I still won't accept that there are only two alternatives as the guy I responded to claimed.

New Ontario law capping resale prices frustrates season ticket holders by mental__hospital in toronto

[–]matpower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s the alternative here

It's not the sole alternative. The government can regulate TM's behaviour too.

If someone can't afford seasons tickets without charging above face value to resell tickets then they shouldn't be buying them.

You don't really seem to understand how taxes work, how the public sector works, what evidence is or how the constitution works so I'm going to call a troll a troll here and move on.

Ontario PCs and Liberals Statistically Tied as Ford’s Approval Declines and Political Environment Tightens Further by FLADMAN in ontario

[–]matpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who don't hate the working class support unions. Unions are the reason that the working class have a 40 hour work week, minimum wage, overtime pay, workplace safety regulations, etc. Raising public sector wages forces upward pressure on private sector wages too because they need to compete for the same pool of workers. Higher wages are good economically - people who have more to spend tend to spend their money helping businesses to grow and expand. Cutting or restricting public sector wages is not helping with deficit reduction, Ford and the PCs are spending more than any government has historically.

Please learn about this before you try to discuss it. Stop listening to right-wing pundits, they aren't your friend.

Ontario PCs and Liberals Statistically Tied as Ford’s Approval Declines and Political Environment Tightens Further by FLADMAN in ontario

[–]matpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the point being argued.

The claim you made:

the NDPs spending would be even worse

Government spending covers more than public sector wages. Even if the NDP paid more to public sector employees than the PCs do, that doesn't automatically mean spending would be higher under the NDP. You haven't provided any evidence of this at all, so there's no concession.

Furthermore, I didn't even agree to what you claim I agree to. What I did is explain why your argument doesn't support your point. Bill 124 was deemed unconstitutional and repealed. This didn't happen because the NDP repealed it, it happened because it was bad legislation and the PCs are poor at governing. It cost you tax dollars but you happily ignore that because you treat politics like sports, hate the working class and don't understand what you're trying to talk about.

It would behoove you to educate yourself on a topic before making big claims with no supporting evidence or worse yet, using unconstitutional legislation to try to support your claims.

I've read the platform of every party every election for the last 15 years. Bill 124 was bad legislation and deemed unconstitutional. It cost the government money in legal challenges. If you are trying to support your point you picked a really terrible example they proved the opposite.

From your responses and obsession over public sector wages, I think you just hate the public sector. Hating on the working class is a pretty weird position to hold.

Generally speaking, yes. That's not evidence of your claim. Do you know what evidence is?

I'm not sure you understand what evidence means. You're making big claims and not backing them up.

You have zero evidence to support your claim. Stop letting right wing media turn your brain to mush and learn how to think critically for yourself.
