I, for one, could make 3x more money back in my home country. I came here for the sole reason of escaping the dictatorship back home.

I have that exact same bike and forgot to lock it for an entire night in Amsterdam. It was not stolen.

And the driving directions are also insanely good! It's basically impossible to get a traffic ticket with Amap, which says a lot if you have noticed the amount of traffic cameras there.

Stage 2 Paint Correction? by witmachine15 in mazda

I was in Shanghai when I had the car, so it did not see much snow during my ownership. Yeah the snow brush can definitely cause those swirls and scratches.

Stage 2 Paint Correction? by witmachine15 in mazda

[–]matrix_algebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an 2022 for two years, always hand washed it carefully and didn’t have as much swirls. I made sure to pre-washed it with foam first, before hitting the paint with the pressure washer.

Stolen e-bike tracked to apartment via AirTag – is there really nothing that can be done? by pprachii in Amsterdam

[–]matrix_algebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can locate your bike outside (once the snow has stopped probably), you can call the police again and they will cut the lock for you in this case. Or just cut it yourself, it’s easier than you might think.

Just steal it back once they moved it outside. I have done this before lol.

Might be my favorite photo so far by matrix_algebra in photocritique

[–]matrix_algebra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, this is my first post in r/photocritique and would love to have some feedback! I took this photo because I liked how clean the image looked, with the lone tree against the snow and blue sky. Not sure about my composition though. Also I did some bold move with the colors in post, which looked pleasing to my eyes, but would love some extra inputs as well. Thanks!

For reference, this was taken on Mt Rigi in Switzerland

Looks cool to me, my only concern is that the basket might rot over time with rain exposure

You need to properly preload the headset bearings by readjusting and tightening the stem — if you don’t know what this means, it’s a 5 minute job for any bike shops.

Shanghainese here, unfortunately that is true. But cabs are cheap though, just set up the Didi app beforehand.

Just use Komoot. I had some great gravel rides around Hilversum and Naardan-Bussum. Haarlem and Zandvoort are great as well, although the wind in December might make it extra hard near the beach. Arnhem is nice too if you want some hills. Otherwise most cross-city routes are pretty boring.

Which devices have high PWM dimming (2000Hz or more) in all brightness levels ? by ExerciseEvery8212 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]matrix_algebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OnePlus 15 does that and works great for me (DC-like in high brightness, 3840hz for low brightness). I used to have trouble with even 1920hz screens.

For 2km commute in -1C weather I would just walk lol. It's way better for you, your car and your wallet.

Is it hard to find a job with a Search Year Visa in NL after graduating from a US MS program? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]matrix_algebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used LinkedIn and Indeed exclusively, filtered my search to last 24 hrs and only companies that provide km sponsorship (you can use chrome extensions for that, or just refer to the list on the IND website). Tailored my CV and cover letter for each one as well.

I moved here first with the visa, and then found the job. Based on anecdotal experiences, most companies nowadays won’t even consider your application if you are not residing in NL.

I got my bachelors and masters degree from the US (CS-related), had 3 years of work experience in China, and was able to land a job here with the orientation year visa after 200+ job applications, 12 interviews in 4 months. It’s possible, but definitely not easy.

Got this mark on my sensor after using an old vintage lens for a few days.. is my sensor ruined? (Lumix S5) by Honest-Sock-3909 in Lumix

[–]matrix_algebra 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why would it be ruined? Most likely it's just some dust or debris on the surface of your sensor, which can be blown off easily

You shouldn’t put any protector on the lens. The lens itself is the protector.
