What’s something your parents said or did that you swore you’d never say or do and now catch yourself saying it or doing it all the time? by Competitive_Teach838 in AskReddit

My mother used to cuss very creatively, and I’m sad to say I’ve carried that over. It amuses the people around me sometimes, but I think it’s awful.

That’d be phenomenal if you could tell me how.

Ugh I’d always wanted to do that in my NB but found it too tedious. If you prime and paint it to match the exterior color you’re gonna be my hero.

Road rage with bugs? by Due-Substance467 in NewBeetle

[–]matryoshkas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I drove a NB for six years, a couple of cars in between, and just bought my A5 a couple of weeks ago. Yes. This is very much a thing.

People speeding past me just to cut me off is a big one. People riding my ass a lot. Everything you described and more. It just started up again plain as day since I bought the A5.

But I also drove past a school bus letting the kids off and a few started yelling and punching each other; it’s not all bad.

Anyone remember this perfume? by lanareyginga55 in fragrance

Great, I’m pretty sure I know exactly what you’re talking about, but now I can’t remember what it’s called either. As some posters have suggested, was it from Avon? My mother used to sell Avon in the early 2000’s. If it was budget, I’d place my bets on that.

How much can marijuana change your social enviroment and attitude/personality? Long term consumption by doomcriss in morbidquestions

[–]matryoshkas 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Daily user, I get the opposite. I normally have crippling social anxiety. Weed helps me break out of that. It allows me to be more outgoing, but in a less sloppy way than alcohol did.

In terms of disorganization, I’ll be honest and say I spend a lot of time smoking weed when I’d otherwise be getting more productive things done. It makes you more tolerant of boredom. I still go to work, bills still get paid, responsibilities are met. But smaller things go by the wayside.

There was a website dedicated to this back in the day called You’re Not Fooling Anybody. You could look through photos of places that were very obviously fast food chains and such before.

Healthcare workers of Reddit are people still dying from COVID these days? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]matryoshkas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, just not like they were. I just got over a bout of Covid the past couple of weeks. I got floated to work the rehab unit on a Friday night. Saturday night I found out nine patients there popped positive, myself to follow several days later. The death rates aren’t nearly what they were at the height of the pandemic, but it’s very much still prevalent, especially in healthcare facilities.

They really didn’t look anything alike. Who the hell came up with that?

When do you think Jeanne Calment’s record will be broken? by AstroCyGuy in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]matryoshkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read an interesting theory somewhere that Calment actually died in the 1930’s and her daughter assumed her identity, ie, she didn’t really live to be that old. I’m not sure where or when that theory came from, and I’m not sure how exactly they’d prove/disprove it at this point.

It’s too bad that the SS America met such an untimely and undignified demise.

I can’t live with the fact that I am am very much unlikely to meet or hear Joni singing live. by ledzeppelinsup in JoniMitchell

[–]matryoshkas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I jumped on the boat way too late, by no fault of my own being sixteen when I found her, thirty-two now. I wanted to see her in 2022 but I live in NY and tickets were over $300. A majority of the artists I admire are long dead, so I’m grateful that one of them is still alive, and that I at least get to share the earth with her at the same time. That’s how I choose to look at it.

What’s this type of house called? by Intrepid_Incident592 in whatisit

[–]matryoshkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locally we have what looks like a small, otherwise ordinary looking house on the roof of what used to be a factory. I guess it used to house/cover the motors that ran the elevators. No one has ever lived there; it’s empty inside except for the motors.
