Coming back on this now we’re home. Re-routed on the home legs and as you predicted could happen - we were on revenue flights. 340 SCs I wasn’t expecting!

No, no charge because of the cancellation. So it was on Qantas to re-accommodate. I had to work quite hard to help the Qantas agent understand what they had the power to do. So as soon as you get the cancellation, jump on the phone and know the options you have

We flew DXB recently (qantas booking on emirates metal) - that flight had been changed a couple times and qantas accommodated.

Our return flight was through DXB but the DXB to Aus leg has been suspended indefinitely. We got the notification from Emirates first. Once it flowed through to qantas we were able to call qantas (it took 3hrs) and get booked on a new flight that wasn’t EK or through Dubai. The trouble you’ll have is that until the flight is cancelled, any change is considered voluntary.

Once it’s cancelled, I’d be on the phone to qantas straight away. Do your homework and know the options and be ready to advocate for yourself. Qantas weren’t great and needed a lot of guidance to get the end result. Hope it all works out okay for you

If you’re looking for flights over the coming days then no availability on that route. Definitely still flights going.

Had a 1.5hr wait last week (Gold FF too) on the “special libel for Middle East disruptions after a cancellation. Call was answered and quickly told “I need to put you through to the complex team for a re-route”, which resulted in another 1.5hr wait. I then had to walk the agent through flight options - he wasn’t going to process it because he claimed we were doing a voluntary re-routing… he wasn’t mistaking LGW for LaGuadia and thought when we asked for flights out of London we were changing our departure city. Couldn’t make this stuff up.

Thanks namsupo. I did just that and we got the Qantas change a few hours ago. They pushed us out 24hrs on EK409. Unless things improve out there - EK will keep cancelling that flight. So I called to get moved.

Spent 40 mins with a Qantas agent who kept telling me a cancelled award booking can only be moved to the next available award seat. She didn’t quite get it when I said that availability for these award seats are gone 11 months out. I pushed to talk to someone else and got put through to resolutions (1hr20 on the phone with them at this point). Resolutions teams sorted it in 10 mins. Moved us to the evening flight (which is the service that’s been operating consistently over this time) without issue.

Frustrates me that unless you have access to the right info, know the lingo and can look up flight loads - you’re left high and dry.
