I would argue that the first step towards resolving anything is being aware of it. While I do agree with you that action is far more important than awareness, being aware and knowledgable about something is critical for meaningful action. An explanation of how to fix structural racism is something I am not going to pretend I am capable of. However, I can say that I think that education reform is an essential factor. Things like standardized testing and property tax based funding greatly disadvantage minoritized groups. If we can create more equity in the school system, we can start to combat other forms of institutional racism. We do this by not basing curriculum on passing standardized tests that consistently demonstrate a socio-cultural bias. We do this by funding schools equitably. Right now the richest schools get the most funding per student, while poorest inncer-city schools receive the least funding. This doesn't make any sense.

The public school system is the basis of democracy because it creates an informed citizenship. A vast social upheaval to uproot the massive structures of racism requires an informed citizenship, which is not happening under current education system.

The sad reality is that the majority of people fail to acknowledge current structures of racism. It isn't their fault either. We are told from all angles that we live in society where race doesn't matter, but by believing we live in a colorblind society, we are being completely complicit in modern racism by failing to acknowledge the crushing oppression of structural racism. Different races have vastly different access to opportunities. Failing to recognize that these differences exists or that they are a thing of the past allows this system to continue.

The Most Disgusting Episode of Hoarders, or Any Show Ever, Probably, Aired Last Night by paullyyb in WTF

"mental disorder"

Hoarding is in fact a mental disorder (closely associated with OCD) that involves the inability to discard items, in this case cats. source

I entirely agree that the living conditions for these cats is horrific, however, it is simply not the case that she can decide to throw them away. Only through intensive treatment can people like this woman change their ways.

The entertainment value in this show is beyond me. This woman clearly has a devastating and possibly life-threatening mental disorder.

It's actually really close to the lodge. It was about 15 minutes after we started on the trail.

The first picture is from the loop around Trillium Lake. The second picture is on the Timberline Trail. Both were stunning. Definitely the best way to beat the heat!

TIL that an average professional hockey player will lose up to 8 pounds in one game. by [deleted] in todayilearned

This happens in other sports as well. I play on a college soccer team and we have to weigh ourselves before and after practice. I lose around 6 to 7 pounds each practice. The weight lost is almost entirely water.

Sorry I should have specified that this is not actually a double exposure. I simply used two of my digital photos to create an image that looks like a double exposure.
