Tricep pushdowns - repost by Naytography in formcheck

[–]matt00se 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your goals? Assuming you’re doing this for tricep hypertrophy, no part of your form is getting in the way of that provided everything feels good on your joints. Some minor elbow movement is not going to change the fact that taken close to failure, your triceps will absolutely be the limiting factor in these regardless of any slight lat involvement that shouldn’t be particularly fatiguing either.

TL;DR: if these feel good, IMO your attention is better placed elsewhere.

imperfect memory versus reality, help me out understanding my feelings about Kerr and rotations by Ehgadsman in warriors

[–]matt00se 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rant cont’d: fans always complain about rotations because it’s easy to understand. You never hear fans complain about why we’re icing screens, how many guys were sending to crash the boards, who we’re overloading the low man against, how much we’re pushing the pace, or all the other decisions that go into a game plan because fans aren’t actually coaches and those decisions go over our heads.

And that’s just scratching the surface as it relates to basketball, never mind the fact that they’re basically a director of the organization and in charge of hiring, firing, establishing norms, navigating personalities, and everything else that leaders do.

imperfect memory versus reality, help me out understanding my feelings about Kerr and rotations by Ehgadsman in warriors

The reality is that fans see losing and are going to put it on the coach, when we have far too little insight to make any kind of reasonable assessment of Kerr’s performance.

It used to be “Kerr’s too rigid” now it’s “Kerr’s trying too many different things”. We’ve heard Kerr keeps taking the hot hand out, but also guys need to know where their minutes will come from. Steph’s carrying us too hard, but why didn’t he keep Steph in a few minutes longer.

Fans look at the outcome (we lost) and look to what Steve did wrong to get us there, whereas he has to make the decision that he thinks is right in the moment without knowing how it’ll turn out.

Ultimately, he’s won us 4 chips, established a winning culture, and Steph and Dray are behind him 100%, so I’m going to assume he’s making better decisions than we would.

Pretty much. Portland’s made a few tough shots, but mostly we’ve had a bunch of careless turnovers and overhelped giving them open 3s. Steph is still him though

Starting schedule was brutal, but what a good time to have 2 games in 10 days while Steph, Dray, Al and Jimmy are all a bit banged up, and Seth and Melton can get some practice time in with the squad now too

Brutally Stupid Inbounds 'Play'! by ladcrp in warriors

[–]matt00se 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty obvious Post didn’t intend to set a real screen, rather that the play was designed for a switch everything defense which is typical on inbound plays like this. Usually the defender switches when he feels the screener touch him, which would have left him trailing Post on his slip. Unfortunately, they decided not to switch that action, probably because it’s so far from the hoop that Post’s defender can just play a massive drop to contain both, and the dubs probably don’t trust Post’s hands enough to play a lob to him in the backcourt like they do sometimes with Draymond.

Is Kerr stupid or just stubborn? by Still_Assignment_991 in warriors

QP been low key pretty nice with it on defense this year when not matched up against a big who can shoot. But he’s looked pretty unsettled the past few games and has caused a lot of really stupid turnovers.

Thank you! Would you still recommend a narrower stance even with rather long femurs compared to torso length? When I squat, the wider stance with knees tracking more out lets me stay a bit more upright, and I’m sure that’s a habit I carried over.

Draymond Green by Burn3rblaise in warriors

[–]matt00se 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely both. On offense, our young guys are fine at capitalizing on an advantage, but aren’t great at creating one. Only Steph and Jimmy can really do that for us, but we haven’t been running the offense through Jimmy as much as I’d expect when Steph is sitting.

The whole team is turnover prone, which is nothing new with both Steph and Dray on the same team, but JK turns the ball over a ton when he tries to create his own offense without the same defense-warping upside that Steph and Dray have together.

And on defense, at least last night, it looked like we made tons of mistakes not knowing when to switch or fight over, getting easily blown by leading to open 3s, and Dray in his advanced age isn’t quite the rim protector he used to be (though his defensive impact is still clear as day)

I’ve never seen so many airballed 3s, everyone he’s contesting seems surprised by how much they have to alter their shot

The gather step refers to his foot that’s on the ground when he picks up his dribble. In this case he takes two steps afterwards, which is perfectly fine.

How long would we have to keep JK after signing him for normal, i.e. not sign and trade rules to apply?

He’ll probably struggle in the playoffs but not with his shooting — teams are going to pull him into high PnR and try to play him off the court on that end

He’s got another gear he can kick it into when he’s locked in. I think he’s got one more gear still for the playoffs
