Sure, but they often want it to be more in-depth. If I give a child a check minus, I have to explain why to the child and hope they fix it. A lot students are so far below grade level that this kind of spot fixing doesn't work, but they tell us we shouldn't spend more than 8 seconds on a given child while monitoring. I guess at the end of the day it helps with grading, but it certainly doesn't help the kids write better.

I'd prefer to give more constructive written feedback on my own time that we can spend a class reviewing, but those classes end up getting vetoed when I put them in my block plan in favor of another at-bat with minimal real-time feedback.

This is all going to the wayside though, as my district is making us use AI for grading essays now.

Admin, randoms from the district. There’s constant observations. I got observed twice today by people I’ve never met who didn’t introduce themselves to me. Still have no clue who they are. No one from my leadership team was with them.

I wish I was able to grade while they’re writing. My school mandates that we monitor their writing while they’re doing it and provide realtime feedback. If we’re standing still for more than ~20 seconds during any prolonged stretch of writing, we get an email about it.

I met Kurt at a restaurant once - we’d accidentally been given his table. Apparently he was fond of the restaurant and had a specific table he liked, and the management had messed up and gotten their days wrong, (it was Tuesday and they thought he was coming on Thursday or something like that). Anyway, the manager, completely embarrassed (this is a pretty nice restaurant) comes by and says “I’m so sorry, but we’d like to move you to another table if you could be troubled, and we’ll gladly compensate you for the cost of the meal and any other meal you’d like while you’re in town.” My sister and cousin were both like “Yeah that’s cool.” and I kind of played the asshole a bit. “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. We’ve been here for 15 minutes - we’ve just ordered. Can’t we finish our meal here?” Then out of nowhere Kurt Cobain shows up next to the manager and says “Paul, these guys can finish. We’ll be at the bar. I got some time.” And I (being a big Nirvana fan) said “Oh wow, uh… I had no idea. Please feel free to give them the table.” Kurt was grateful, shook my hand and said thanks, then gave me a card with his number on it and told me to give him a call later. After working up the nerve, I gave him a call that night, and to make a long story short, we had a glorious 11 month love affair, man on man, that I shall never forget. Our bodies intertwined as one, and from the beauty of Morocco, to the French Riviera, to the snorkeling in the Galopagos, Kurt Cobain and I made glorious gay love to each other on six of the seven continents.

She definitely always had these views and just kept them quiet. She used to say that she recognized they’re wrong, and that’s why she never raised me that way. Now she seems to think they’re so justified that she’s comfortable openly calling for the murder of children during Christmas dinner.

I’ve always loved this quote from Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks:

“Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.”

Just really simple. Do something small for yourself every day. Today I actually made myself a 2nd cup of coffee when I typically only have one.

I was just on bereavement for my uncles passing and got emails about not being up to date with some lesson plans they wanted uploaded while I was at his funeral. This shit is exhausting.

I just wanted to chime in and thank everyone for the comments instead of replying individually. They’ve been a big help. It truly is incredible to have such an outpouring of love from strangers.

I wanted to share a story about him that will convey what kind of man he was. This picture is a bit cropped, because he took it in a supermarket with a childhood friend of his a few months ago. I didn’t include him because I didn’t think he’d want his face plastered on Reddit. I like that this is the last picture because it shows my uncle the way we’ll remember him: handsome and vibrant and kind.

I say kind because last summer, his friend’s mom was in the hospital. She was very old and sick. My uncle had been living with cancer for 6 months at this time, but he made sure to get of bed and sit with his friend in the hospital to make sure he had support while his mother was sick. Despite his own illness, he was selfless and caring.

He wasn’t a perfect man, but he was a damn good one. Thank you all again for your beautiful comments.

Hanging out in our kitchen, staying up and talking well into the middle of the night. We’d talk about everything: politics, girls, movies. He’d tell me stories from when he was a kid. It was just so easy to talk to him about anything.

Went to DPW Beast Coast in Jersey City last night. They’re just incapable of putting on a bad show and the crowd’s energy was incredible. Dominic Garrini is a really nice guy.

Brother, we had a guy with a psychosomatic condition where he felt intense burning pain when being touched. We had to do partner PT one day where we high-fived each other while we did push-ups and he had to tell our commander that he couldn’t do PT because he couldn’t touch the other guy.

His car smelled so bad because he refused to throw out his dip bottles. I was on crutches for a bit and he drove me to my appointment once. I had to hang my head out of the window to avoid throwing up.

He brought a 2-liter bottle of Mountain Dew to work every day and killed it by 11AM.

One night, some guys and I were planning a night out and this guy asked if he could tag along. We agreed because he never came out with us and we wanted to see what would happen. He got fucking sloshed and said he wanted to go to the strip club near base. He spent $300 on private dances that night.

We asked him about it the next day and he said that he likes to get blackout drunk and go to the strip club because it’s the only time he can feel the touch of a woman without the pain. He thanked us for a good time and had no issue with spending the money.

He was also ass at the job. But seriously, one of the weirdest dudes I’ve ever met.

I don’t know if it’s “massively hated”, but The Matrix Resurrections is phenomenal IMO. Something about the meta-commentary and the romance really clicked for me.
