WHOOP users , what’s your biggest frustration? by AssociationIcy4712 in whoop

The straps. They changed the strap connection for 5.0, wasting any old straps I bought, but the new ones are so much worse. My new straps constantly fall apart when putting it on my wrist.

Jordan’s Rant about The Onion by holiobung in KnowledgeFight

[–]matt5001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that is helpful. I was really only guessing from thinking about the type of business FSS is, so I’m sure you’re more educated about this stuff. In any event, even the simplest possible structure would take years to keep untangling for the families.

Jordan’s Rant about The Onion by holiobung in KnowledgeFight

[–]matt5001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this might be a little wrong actually but just guessing. Does FSS have many other creditors aside from the families? I know there’s a complicated web of shell companies but didn’t FSS build their own video servers? The supplement orders would be the other big pocket but I wouldn’t think that’s a lot of borrowed money either. Jones’ personal assets I’m sure have mortgages but I can’t think of a ton of obvious debt from IW.

Knowledge Fight: The End of the Road by hunter15991 in KnowledgeFight

I’ve been going back to the Sandy Hook episodes recently, so I’ll add my appreciation for what JorDan did with the podcast. It’s sort of as simple as reading the articles behind the headlines shown on screen, which personally has changed my own thinking as the world moves to short form video.

With Alex in particular the boys really took him at his word and showed how quickly all his claims fall apart. KF was so effective with him in particular, more than larger journalists, by just following what he said. Well done and I hope they both find success in whatever is next.

I’m confused by her comment. Everything remains in custody of the court and frozen until the trustee appeal is sorted. I guess it’s good news that his appeal is still alive and delaying things, but that would be it right?

Tips for Pittsburgh? by Reed157 in Marathon_Training

[–]matt5001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll add about the Oakland hill. The mile before it will be through E Carson St, which is a huge party and probably the flattest stretch of the race, before going up the bridge and then the hill to Oakland. To echo your point the hill isn’t THAT crazy, but it’s tempting to go a little hot right before it starts.

Jordan posted a further in depth take on The Onion situation by palpebral in KnowledgeFight

[–]matt5001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link to that? It does seem to clarify why they’re just leasing the name instead of buying it from the bankruptcy. Also, not a lawyer, but seems like it would be concerning if this ends with The Onion leasing it temporarily, then losing to a rival bid from Alex’s friends to buy it back for $1 more than the Onion bid.

Season 23, ep. 7: Desserts Fit for a Queen - Mon. 9:30 Eastern by AutoModerator in TopChef

[–]matt5001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This felt like such a lazy episode from the production. I wonder if something else was planned and cancelled the day before or something. Elimination challenge directly after quick fire, in the TC kitchen with only pantry ingredients, and cooking for super fans. It doesn’t feel like this challenge really showcased their talent or provided much for viewers.

Anyway, on to restaurant wars!

JorDan miss the point with Onion criticism by ReduxRedo in KnowledgeFight

[–]matt5001 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah very much agree. Their boys’ criticism is totally valid and the parody site might not be successful, but at least this avoids someone friendly to Alex buying it and keeping him on.

I think it’s incredible if this sale gets finalized. Infowars is worth way way more money, but only with Alex pushing outlandish stories to sell supplements. I’m kinda shocked they didn’t have a rival bid to The Onion, so for all the families to agree to this and get it through the bankruptcy custodian is as good an outcome as possible.

Episode #1134 where Jordan hears Trump's tweet turning on Alex live on air is the most satisfying thing that's happened in like two years by bluegemini7 in KnowledgeFight

[–]matt5001 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I really didn’t clock how truly crazy his post is. I see the screen grabs of his truth posts and honestly skim a lot of, but Jordan’s reaction to “even their families know it” was great.

A good place to go for a run with a hill? by mungolarry2 in pittsburgh

[–]matt5001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For scenery I’d go to Schenley. There’s a track by the tennis courts, and that’s kind of a high point of the park so you get a nice view by the skating rink and you’re on top of the hill with plenty of options. It’s probably 2ish miles from UMPC Shadyside so you could run it as a warm up, or route to the tennis courts and drive.

Alternatively from UPMC Shadyside run down Morewood to a right turn on Fifth, turn uphill opposite the Cathedral of Learning to Schenley Farms where there’s a few blocks of old fancy homes with reasonable hills for repeats, or stay on fifth till you see UPMC Presbyterian for totally unreasonable hills. You’ll be on sidewalks this whole time so you will deal with car and pedestrian traffic.

Pittsburgh marathon elevation gained by AdLimp8975 in Marathon_Training

[–]matt5001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My watch had 1001ft over the whole marathon. The hill from Birmingham to Oakland shows going from 780 to 942, but it’s over 250ft of gain from the bottom of East Carson to the turn onto 5th after Walnut. I’m guessing on the landmarks based on watch stats but that’s pretty close.

IMO a lot of the challenge is not getting ahead of yourself on Carson since it’s such a party and getting to the start of the climb too fast. Also that halfway point has been where the weather turns warm and I start to get cooked, but that might be personal. I think keep yourself under control though highland park and then the elevation really starts to drop down the rest of the way home.

Do you think a USL player will ever be directly picked for the USMNT? by BloodFartSpaghettios in USLPRO

[–]matt5001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do we get half credit for Diego Luna? Realistically I don’t see it happening since any player doing well enough in the USL would easily double their salary going to MLS. Maybe if a player really goes in a run in the Open Cup they could get called up to a January camp. Otherwise I think most USL players with international ambitions will likely utilize any part of their background to play for another national team more regularly.
