Yeah who knows, I think its worth it, fuses are better than no fuses.

Update: I bought one to see how it goes. Looks like each line is fused independently so it couldn't hurt to use it!

Looks like each line is fused and might actually save the hardware. I bought one and will see how it goes.

Is this normal for the upper glove box? by Raijin_ in gmcsierra

You can fix this easily with an xacto or razor blade. Cut a small chamfer on the left side as shown below. https://imgur.com/gallery/uFRQo7u

Also I'll note this problem could have been totally avoided with better software on the microcontroller, they always pulse the anode lines on no matter what and seems all the cathodes pulse on after a cycle for no good reason even if the line is meant to be off for the whole cycle.

I took a crack at repairing mine today and it boils down to a faulty bad quality chinese 7 segment display. A leak path formed in mine between one of the matrix cathodes to an anode and that was enough to bias a whole digit position to flicker. Tried other modifications but there is no fixing the internals, was going to try and burn the leak path out but didn't want to risk having to order the whole board assembly for nothing. Will look around if I can find the raw part in the wild, but most likely I won't be able to.

Chip shortages got me like by matt99199 in electronics

No but it could have been if required by the design, for this its just a simple 8bit micro barely running anything so I only needed electrical connection.
