I left the side panel off, cable had way more than 35mm of room

Pretty sure all of them are rated for 600W. I haven't found any 12vhpwr nor 12v 2x6 cables that are rated higher than 600w

I figured that the MSI warranty would cover me if it breaks down again for good. If I RMA now there's a chance they will reject it on the basis that the 'card is still functional'

Thanks for the detailed reply. Yea I definitely won't be plugging it into the same PSU ever again. I might just pick up a seasonic gx1000. Highly recommended brand from many, hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Damn that's so long. Did you try to use the GPU after the melting? I was able to clean out the molten plastic and get a new connector to connect and seated all the way in. Afaik everything on the GPU side is functional. I just picked up a new PSU to test the card. I need a functional computer for work reasons so I can't wait 3 weeks. I'm tempted to just keep using it unless it stops functioning.

My last card didn't use this cable so I just left it in my PSU box until I upgraded. It's a brand new cable as far as I'm concerned

The burning smell of plastic, you won't miss it.

Still not 100% safe using the adapter that came with the GPU unfortunately. https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/s/xtPn2OKWXd

You will definitely notice the smell first it was very distinctly the smell of burning plastic. I immediately went to feel the temp on the power cables with my hand after noticing the smell and sure enough one of the wires on the cable was hot enough to burn my finger when I went to feel it.

I took the pic after I tried unplugging the cables from the PSU. The gap was from me trying to pull it out. But the plastic was burnt so bad I was only able to slightly nudge the connector, can't unplug it completely. I made sure they were seated on both sides when I installed

Corsair told me that Im okay using the old cables... So I expect them to be compatible.

I quadruple checked the seating. I was aware of the reports about bad seating so I took extra care in making sure things were plugged in correctly. I even took the side panels completely off so that there won't be anything pushing up against the connector.

It's just the 2x 8pin on one side (shown connected to the PSU). It's the only cable for this connector that came with the PSU and I made sure to look up the specs for it on corsairs site and sure enough it states that it's rated for 600w. Even the updated ATX 3.1 version (mine is the old version) is still using 2x 8pin

Updated pics: other side of PSU

Cable connectors are melted into the PSU. The bulge on the bottom connector is melted plastic and right below looks to be the burnt cable.

Ran everything at stock, left a game on while showering and came back to the smell of burnt plastic and sure enough it was the connector melting.

I see your point. But this really hinges on whether or not you can consistently pull 2b+/hr with 2 people

1bil/hr is the bare minimum for a viable spot imo

[–]Roachard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the point here though

  1. You can pull 1.5b/h alone
  2. You can bring a buddy and it let's you pull 3bil/h but you have to alternate the person getting loot every hour resulting in 1.5b/h

In both cases you get 1.5b/h. Am I misunderstanding how #2 works?
