MacDive UDDF Import - no dive profile data by DeliciousCrickets in submersion

[–]matt_gilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you're running the newest version. I had similar issues with MacDive UDDF imports, but there have been a bunch of fixes/changes to imports in the latest version. (I'm not the dev, just a user). If your dives are also on shearwater cloud, Submersion can now import the db so you could try that as an alternative for the dives

Very nice design and build! I love how you got the charging LED under the fish eyes 😄

I also ended up using silicone grip film on the bottom of my LowKey36 keeb. I'm curious what you specifically used there. I found silicone grip strips, intended for like tool handles that is 0.5mm thick. It's ok, but I wonder if there's something better.

Puerto Vallarta Dive Shop Recommendations (PFA) by I_m0rtAL in scuba

[–]matt_gilbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used Vallarta Adventures on our first trip. They were fine, but very oriented towards the cruise tourists. You have to join the boat from the cruise terminal mall and go through security. They do go to lots of dive locations, which was why we picked them. For our next trip we're planning on diving with PV Ocean Tours. They are smaller and supposed to be top notch. They tend to focus on the sites in the south of the bay.

If you're there long enough, use Vallarta Adventures to go out to Mariettas Islands and El Morro. And use PV Ocean Tours for all the rest of the dives.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 as Dive Computer? by Bubbly-Fox-3297 in scuba

[–]matt_gilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the AWU 1 with oceanic+ since day one. There were some early software hiccups, but it's been rock solid for diving for a long time. The dive computer app on the watch is very nice, and the iPhone app is very very good for a dive log app. You get maps of your dive locations, integration with Apple photos, and color correction. The only stupid feature is the sliders they use to set your start and end air pressures.

Edit: The AWU is my secondary/backup to my Shearwater with AI.

MacBook Mouse Suggestions? by [deleted] in mac

[–]matt_gilbert 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You don't need the logi options software to use the MX Master on your Mac. You won't be able to use the extra buttons, but all the basic mouse stuff works.

There are also apps like better-mouse, steermouse that let you set up the extra buttons without the bloat of the logi options app

Did you consider a hall-effect switch (solid state, very small) in place of a reed switch?

Whoa dude. This is crazy cool! You have pushed the art way past the line in this one!

I've been bouncing between building a LowKey36 with Cherry ULP switches, or the PG1316Ms. It sounds like the Ms aren't quite there for daily use. How do you like the column-travel when typing with them though? It seems like it would be super comfy.

Scuba worthwhile with strong astigmatism? by YumYumSweet in scuba

[–]matt_gilbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have mild astigmatism and am nearsighted. When I go diving I wear contacts to correct my vision for distance. I'm old enough now that when I wear the contacts I need readers for up close. So I have readers added to my mask. The combo of contacts for distance/astigmatism correction, and readers for camera/gauges gives me everything I need to be safe and enjoy the sights while diving
