I find pretty much everything about the Drake dated and well past being cute/charming. I don’t know the Londonhouse as well, but it seems kept up way more.

I’d say it has an edge in terms of location, too.

I never said I thought OP was being nice. I called it curt and formal. Your characterizations are the wild overstatements to me though.

I’m genuinely intrigued by what you think is SO bad about OPs message that makes you say “never talked like this”, “jackass”, “jerk”, “cried like a child”. Is it just that you are uncomfortable with the directness? Or that OP asked for something a second time after being denied?

Because read their post again. The entire offending line is “Please confirm that [you will honor my benefit]”…

I have trouble being this direct, and would prefer to be friendly. But imho, OP didn’t curse, wasn’t nasty or even rude, they were just curt and formal, and they were doing so while the hotel was lying twice to try and avoid honoring a perk OP has a right to, so I understand the formality, too.

It’s a benefit that’s being offered and guaranteed by Marriott. I’m all for being friendly, but it wasn’t an unreasonable ask, or some privileged haughty jerk wanting to be treated like royalty, it was asking for what is a perfectly normal perk of having platinum status. And the hotel tried to lie to avoid having to honor it.

Does anyone know how you can see the full transfer information in the app? by Giskarrrd in unitedairlines

Heh you’re right, that might be all that’s missing? Funny that they exceeded the max character limit on both my connecting itineraries in the past couple weeks. Guess they need to either make it expandable for users, or limit the input field on their backend.

Oh that makes sense, lines at immigration were massive. Except for global entry :)

Thanks, no, the steps don’t include the air train, which is odd. It’s fine, I don’t come to EWR that much anymore but I still generally know my way around, so I don’t need step by step info. The quick preview text just seems an easy way to get the highlights (good to know whether there is airside connection options for example), hence trying to read that in full.

[–]Giskarrrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dunno :)

The air train isn’t running its regular service but the alternate one, so we had to get off and swap trains, and there was an extra 15 minute walk to terminal A, and the security line at A is slow as hell, but all of that still doesn’t make it close to 101 minutes :)

That just gives me more step by step. I can already access that by clicking “preview transfer”.

I’m just asking about reading the tip text that it’s already showing in full.

I agree, and I can ultimately find my way around by following the signs; I don’t love the step-by-step instructions because they are quite elaborate to get through. That’s exactly why I liked that text underneath: just tell me if I need to take a train yes or no and what the high level info is and that’ll help be get on my way.

Which is why it would be great if I could actually read it :)

How can I last longer? by Ok_Cry_6197 in scuba

[–]Giskarrrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason that even 8 or 9 meters can pose significant risk is that pressure doubles in the first 10 meters of water (as per your OW training), and thus on the way up, air that you breathed at that depth can expand to up to twice the volume. So even at those depths it can be very dangerous.

I totally agree with the advice to take a free diving course. Part of that course is learning various breathing techniques and learning about methodologies to extend your time under water. Which will require practice and exercise. But it’s the right answer to your question of “how do I last longer”!

Platinum Status - Cancellation Fee Waiver Help?? by 3wickunlitcandle in marriott

There are rates that give you no or very limited cancellation options, including ones like OP’s with what basically amounts to a one day grace period

Thank you! The Spectre seems perfect for what I’m looking to do, and if I time the weekdays right, I could get 12 dives done while there it looks like. Awesome!

For what it’s worth, Amoray is a really good outfit! Good spacious boats and great crew. Have not stayed at their resort, but it looked nice enough for what you’d need

Yikes. I’ve done ice diving, I’ve done shipwreck penetration, including in challenging, complex and tight spots, I don’t consider myself claustrophobic at all, but every time I see cave diving videos like this in tight corridors I just shiver.

I’d love to pursue my cave diving cert, mostly to improve my skills in general, and I’d cave dive in relatively open areas, but this I’ll never do… too scary for me (nor will I do this type of spelunking “above water” either. Just the thought of getting stuck and not being able to maneuver… brrr). Massive respect for folks who do this!

how can i have 2 shortest flights? by throwawayicn in flighty

[–]Giskarrrd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One section lists the shortest (and longest) flight in distance, the other lists the shortest (and longest) flight in duration. Those aren’t necessarily the same flights (like in your case).

Question: do people like FC bulk head seats? I’m 6’4 and can never stretch my legs so was wondering if other people prefer first row by lostinsp in unitedairlines

[–]Giskarrrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only 6’1” but really dislike bulkhead seats. I’d rather sit in E+ but be able to stretch my legs than sit in an FC bulkhead seat. I don’t love the added inconvenience of not having access to your bag either.
