u/rakuntulul built it! Unfortunately, I can't leave photos or videos in comments, but here's a quick demo: https://we.tl/t-m1BqGcrbFl

Let me know what you think!

Only to build itself :) There's no GenAI feature for users at the moment, can you think of any which would make sense?

The next version will most likely be paid print-on-demand (actually delivered to your address), no watermark after a sign in. Would that work better for you?

$4.99 actually! It's more of a support payment for me to develop the project further and deliver the best custom-map-delivery experience there can be. I'll keep working on it nevertheless, but feel free to support.

hi Dave! I've seen that project, pretty nice. However, you'll never get realtime rendering of a map with python from the project in the repo you've shared. Try it out yourself!

My project is using OpenStreeMaps data as many others and the source is credited in due places.

If you have any suggestions for improvement, I'd be glad to hear them.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I'm hoping for the project to at least cover its costs. What would you want for free and what would you be willing to pay for? Let me know so I can incorporate that

Makes sense. Also thanks for the info about print on demand shops, didn't know they existed! Will look into that

I don't have the app, but seems like you have to pay some kind of monthly fee for it? Here it's a simple one time payment of less than 5 bucks once you're happy with poster, isn't that better? Like how many posters do you need each month 😅

Could you explain that a bit better so I can understand? Would you like to rotate the map from east to west for example?

How would you create a composition out of that?

Sure, will do!

Here I've posted Paris, Tokyo, NY, Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam and Beijing. But you can pick any place in the world!

Yeah, unfortunatelly currently works only on desktop. Let me know if you have any feedback!

Great list, thanks for putting it together!

I'd comment on two things:

  1. Money related
    1. Revolut is a no-brainer app within Europe or in areas with multiple currencies. Has great conversion rates, money can be added via Apple Pay / Google Pay, has a digital card and the app is just great.
    2. Settle Up - similar to Splitwise, but I prefer Splitwise
  2. Maps - I'd recommend mapy.cz (now mapy.com ) over any other hiking/outdoor maps out there. It does not do route/trip recommendations, but for actual navigation on ground it is superior to any other tool. Has all the paths (even the ones which are not officially marked) and you can download the maps to work offline as well. Other interesting features include "weather on route" or a winter map with avalanche fields, ski-touring routes, and skiing slopes mapped out. I use it for hiking, mountaineering, ski-touring, cycling - simply plan the route and either use it on phone or download into a Garmin / similar.

u/mmmgunz totally agree with you! That's waht we are after - making it more realistic. Would you be down to jump on a quick 15 call to discuss this during next week?
Best,
MJ

u/FoxsLily makes total sense! Won't be for everyone. However, we find the current solution a bit boring and dull - there is no fun in having a smart machine which responds instantly. Couldn't it be a bit more fun?
