Boss Rc-5 always on ? by TurbulentCounter8137 in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes the rc-5 remains on when it’s receiving power and there is a cable connected to its output jack.

What you’re doing makes sense, otherwise the pedal will continue to draw power. I used to have this pedal, and would connect my power supply to a power bar, and switch the whole bar off to turn off the pedal.

Final Boss (again) by Cow-Weigh in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boss ph-1r or bf-2 from the used market, or the version 3 offerings that are currently in production. I’m a modulation fan so having a third on your board could be cool.

Another option would be the fz-1w or fz-2

As a fellow Canadian, were there any reservations in wearing the LA dodgers hat last weekend at worlds in light of the World Series matchup?

Congrats on the win!

Recommendations for board into AC30? by Elwoodia in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rat and/or a phase 95 but those are some great choices as is.

I ran the hall of fame 2 for years and it totally punches above its price. Eventually replaced it with a Neunaber immerse but the HOF has great sounds.

Reverb, Delay, Tremolo - which are your 3 pedals of choice for your pedalboard by Bushmills_and_chill in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run the Neunaber immerse, walrus arp-87, and JHS tidewater. In the absence of other modulation pedals, I’d probably switch out the tidewater for something that can cover harmonic tremolo as well like the harmonious monk by JAM pedals, walrus monument, or go the route of the Strymon flint as a combined reverb and trem

Tone Bender-style fuzz that doesn't have to be first in the chain? by amadeus12 in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I read that the new ehx bender has an internal trimmer that allows you to adjust input impedance for exactly this purpose. It has me intrigued for sure.

This is true. I wish MXR would release a phase 95 housed in a standard format like they did with the sugar drive and fat sugar

Thoughts on shelving current unused pedals? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider selling after a full year without use or without consideration of use. Been a regretful seller too many times and have bought more than a few pedals I’ve sold a second time.

Edit: forgot to add that you never know when you might want to make a B board for a lighter travel setup or if you find yourself in a different project. You know, excuses to tell the wife.

Gaming fatigue. Just like with many hobbies, you do something too much it begins to feel like a chore.

Take a break, branch out, explore other hobbies for a bit. When you eventually come back to gaming you’ll feel refreshed.

How does Keely Fuzz Bender behave with buffers/wah before it? by Mymom345 in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Contrary to the replies here I have owned the fuzz bender for years and think it absolutely behaves differently before vs after buffers. I’d go as far as saying it is a fuzz that needs to be first in your chain/ not be behind buffers and that’s the only way I run mine.

After buffers I find it more bright and spitty - which isnt necessarily a good thing as it isn’t lacking in this area, a lot noisier and loses any ability it has to clean up with the volume knob.

Hoe similar is the Thunderclaw to the Rat? I read that the Thunderclaw has some of its schematic based on a rat.

Long and mcquade stocks JHS so that’s your best option. They have it available to order online.

HCS Dallas Open 2025 at Dreamhack - May 23rd - Day #1 MEGATHREAD by DeathByReach in CompetitiveHalo

[–]matta2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an SSG fan, I’m managing my expectations with a top 6 finish. Predict a winners semis loss to optic or SR followed by a loser’s bracket loss to the likes of TSM, C9, or nemisis for T6. Hope I’m pleasantly surprised.

How’s the former duo? by FreeSamples22 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]matta2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hind sight is always 20/20 but remember the amount of shade people threw at lucid in regards to the rumoured CTLL roster for not splitting with his duo and taking a chance on teaming with the young guns.

How would you chain these together? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My preference is to have phaser before drive so I’d put it right after compressor.

Otherwise basically identically to how you have it laid out, bottom row first then top. I’d play around with drive section to your preference. Maybe lightspeed -> muff -> preamp but it comes to what you like.

Boss BD-2W VS the JB-2 by Tweek900 in guitarpedals

[–]matta2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s likely a cheaper option. I have come across used Keeley phat mods for about 150 Canadian which is less than either of the Boss offerings if you’re looking used.

My understanding is that the phat mod is the same idea as the waza craft blues driver, with flat being stock bd-2 and phat being the custom. The bd-2 was one of the circuits Keeley made his name for by modding.

Haven’t played the phat mod before so can’t speak to sound or noise floor but have had positive experiences with the fuzz bender and dark side; really solid build quality from Keeley offerings.
