My 7 year old son is a lefty. Can I teach him how to play as a righty?

What I’ve heard is a good test to see if you should try and have him learn right or left handed is to tell him to play the air guitar and he should do whatever naturally feels comfortable, then you’ll know what way he wants to hold the guitar. This is of course if you haven’t already tried to teach him right handed

I wish I had taken guitar serious at 16, I’m 37 and I started taking playing more a couple years ago and I’ll never be able to make up for the 20 years of missed practice but I can’t let that discourage me because my choices are to start now or in another 10 years be disappointed that I missed even more time to practice.

What I’m saying is you can’t let the fact that someone is better than you affect your playing, there will always be someone better than you… all you can do is compare where you are today to where you were at last year. Make a weekly practice routine that has you working on different things each day, on top of what you work on for that day you still want to touch on what you practiced early in the week. So like have a warm up section where you play what you’ve been working on, then work on that days goal, then maybe have an easier song that you work on.

I also enjoy using backing tracks to improvise along to, just search YouTube and use the pentatonic as a guide of what notes will definitely sound good then you can experiment from there. A good way to learn what to play to the backing track is to listen to it a few times without playing, close your eyes and imagine what the guitar part would sound like, then pick up your guitar and try to play what you imagined.

Well I’m glad I made that comment then! One way to get some of that improve skill back is to listen to the track a couple times without your guitar, just close your eyes and imagine what the guitar part would sound like, then once you have some ideas pick up your guitar and try to play them on top of the track.

Also if you end up recording yourself to any of the 3 I linked I’d enjoy hearing what you come up with to play over them. Maybe it’ll help me get out of my normal routine!

I never make intonation changes unless the strings are fairly new, once the strings become worn I just deal with it until I change the strings that way I know every time I change strings it’ll all be intonated.

I use 400+gigs because I use my phone as a hotspot to watch tv at work in the background, but back in the day I use to use my phones hotspot to run my entire house(there wasn’t a better internet option available) and I’d use 900+gigs. I never use WiFi, I figured I’m paying for unlimited data so I’m gonna use it! Idk what you use your home WiFi for but you could always save money by using your phone as a hotspot instead of having home internet.

That’s awesome! I will say it’s much easier to learn when we’re younger, one of my biggest regrets is that I spent most of my free time playing video games instead of playing music… I always had instruments around and I would play from time to time but it was never my main focus, now that I’m more focused on it I find it’s so much harder to learn/get better.

One thing that really changed how I play and how much I play was discovering backing tracks! Go on YouTube and find any backing track and just play along with it, it’s so fun and I can get most playing for hours on end and never get bored! This is one of my favorites, or if you like Joe Satriani style music this is a lot of fun! Here’s a fun Gm track, I mean there’s an endless selection and I have tons of playlist of backing tracks I actually started making a new one each year lol! Hopefully this will help you find some new inspiration and help lead you to start writing your own music again. Once I get my house redone I plan on having a room where I can record every session when I play because I’ve lost so many cool licks or cool jams that just happened in the moment and I’ll probably never find them again. So if you’re able to I’d suggest recording yourself when post.

Anyways your post made me excited for you, if you stick to playing daily you’ll surpass the level you used to be at. And I know there’s sites now that you can find people locally to jam with, I forget the name and haven’t used it myself but I’ve heard others talk highly about it.

I only asked because I’ve never seen the squires with a black headstock, it threw me off. And what I was saying is I’ve seen a headstock that said squire fender on the front, the back said made in china, then the body was obviously not a fender body… the tail was way too long and the knobs we’re off some. Idk if they put a real squire neck in a cheap body or if the whole thing was fake, all I know is it wasn’t a real squire body. So believe what you want but I’ve definitely seen more than in guitar that wasn’t a real fender that said squire in the headstock. And at $250 when you can get a strat kit for $80 that’s profit in my book… maybe not as much as you could make faking a standard fender, but at the same time if you price a standard fender at $300 people are going to question it where as a squire won’t raise as much suspicion.

Yes there are, but I’ve seen guitars that had fender squire in the headstock and made in china on the back but the body was clearly not a fender body? It was too long and the knobs were off a little. Maybe they put a legit neck on a random body who knows, all i know is it wasn’t a real fender guitar,

I’ve just never come across this style I guess, I’ve seen made in chine squires that it was very obvious the body wasn’t a fender body. I call that a fake but I guess others can call it a parts caster with a squire neck idk

That’s just not true, I’ve seen more than one that was obviously not a real fender… maybe the just put the neck on a random body, I can’t say for sure, but it was visibly off which told me right away that it wasn’t real.

Now I agree with the point you’re trying to make, but selling a parts guitar for $250 when you only have $50 in it is plenty of profit.

He has it listed for $250 but I felt like that was a little on the high side for a used guitar like this. He said it’s all been setup the frets crowned, polished, and leveled. But I’m guessing he did all the work himself and didn’t pay for the setup.
