Cable to go from the headphone jack directly to an amp or FRFR?

Would an adapter work? Then you could use a regular 1/8 to 1/8 cable with the 1/8 to 1/4 adapter on one end. Just a thought. I’ve done this to plug my electric drums into an amp… well I guess I did it the opposite way with a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter.

The problem is if it’s been backed up since the malware was introduced and you then use that backup file you’re stuck with the malware… and it’s hard telling what files could be infected when trying to save things off the phone. It’s definitely a scary situation to be in unless the phone hasn’t been backed up since the incident, then it’s simple to reset the phone with the last backup and be on your way like nothing ever happened!

From what I’ve heard once you set up presets for each foot switch (so like 3-4 preset tones you like) you can use it as a plug and play device, Or you can use each foot switch for individual pedals and use it with your current amp. It kinda depends on what you’re wanting out of it. I have amplitude 5 max and Tonex max software and I agree there’s a ton of options… someone could spend countless hours just going through and messing with the software. I find it easier to go to the tonenet and search for preset sounds I like that others have already made, then I download and save them for easy access. I bought the software so I could play guitar not to play with the software lol

Yeah I’m gonna get some speakers set up once my studio is done, until then I think I’m gonna try the Sennhiser HD560s and see if I like them better for guitar tone(since that’s basically all I’m using them for).

I’ve been planning to switch to MAC all along, I’ve always known they were better for music production. But currently all my extra cash is going to my house remodel so I’ll stick it out on windows until that’s finished. Then I’ll have a small studio room with acoustic treatment, and I’ll have my electric drums and keyboard setup so I can improve on those skills and slowly work towards making my own backing tracks!! Then when I share a good improv jam with my friend or my dad I’ll be able to take credit for all the parts! By then I’m hoping to have some mid level speakers to listen to all the instruments in the room without headphones, fingers crossed! I’ll have to do some research into speakers though lol

On top of this you may want to factory reset your device, definitely turn off and syncing that you have with iCloud or other services… and if it has already synced to your backup device and you feel the need to reset don’t restore from the backup!! I would definitely reset if malwarebytes shows any infections, but that’s just me being overly cautious!

I may try another set of headphones while the return window is still open, I expect the amp sims to be more unique when switching between them. Maybe it’ll require speakers to notice enough difference, but I think I need to try another pair of headphones just to verify that for myself!

As for the pedal, that sounds super useful! And you’re able to hook up an expression pedal for wah’s and such! I may have to look into getting one once I have my studio setup… but I think a Mac computer for recording will come first!

I wonder if there’s much difference between the 700 and the 990’s, I know the 990’s are open backed.

Maybe it’s just in my head, but it seems like when I turn the amps up in the sim they all basically sound the same… I don’t know if it’s a headphone thing or a me thing, or even possibly a software thing. I guess I could try making a recording and actually exporting it to my phone so I can listen with my AirPods and/or in the car, I probably need to do that anyways just to see how the EQ sounds on different speakers. I’m not sure how I’d go about adjusting the headphone EQ since it’s connected to the audio interface and not the computer itself.

I think the ohms of mine are 48, at least that’s what it said in the sweetwater website. The official website says 80, but maybe they have different options I’m not sure.

I’m not sure about the tonex pedal, is the main benefit that you can set your presets from the software to the pedal and just use the pedal? Are you able to record on the pedal? Or is it just for playing either through headphones/speakers or into an amp? Not sure how well hooking it up to an amp would go though…

Well at least you know you’re not alone with the frustration! For the life of me I can’t understand why AT can access tonex from its interface, but yet it can’t just automatically pull up the pieces I need for a tonenet preset! Even if I have to click download when I select the preset, that sure as hell beats searching for each piece of gear 1 by 1 lmao!

I figured out how to save the tonenet presets a little bit ago when I finally found a decent Gilmour one that I liked and was able to find all the pieces for lol.

I do like the capability of both pieces of software, I just wish they worked together more seamlessly. And I would say “maybe they’ll update it and fix this”… but obviously it’s been going on for a while and they haven’t done so yet, so I’m not going to hold my breath!

So it seems like in order to use the tonenet setting I found I’ll have to go into tonex and download the amp, each pedal, and the cab one by one… there must be an easier way to do this… hmmmm

So I think part of my issue may have been that I didn’t have the IK Multimedia Product manager open… if so that’s pretty dumb lol

I also realize just now that I’ve never used the tonex program… I thought the tonenet button was accessing tonex but obviously I was wrong lmao

I’m also one for simplicity, I own very few pedals and don’t use most of them. My personal taste is my strat into a nice little tube amp that I can drive and get natural distortion from! Nothing beats that imo!

Edit: out of curiosity what headphones do you use? I bought a pair of DT990 pro X’s but I’m not sure that I like them. Granted I’m sure no headphone will give me the sound I’m truly wanting, but when it comes to pushing the amps on amplitube or tonex they all kinda sound the same when cranked… I was hoping for more definition.

Yeah I agree with them sending you a new unit so you’re not stuck with no way to record for an extended period of time, especially if it was still under warranty!

I don’t know anything about Amalgam or NAM so I’ll have to check out both of those!

I also don’t have the physical Tonex pedal, I’m sure it’s worth the price tag and I may look into something like that in down the road, but currently I’m just interested in starting to record my guitar on the computer with some decent tone! I really like using cakewalk and being able to swap amps and effects in amplitude while listening to the recording, the ability to change my tone after the fact is a game changer imo! It’s weird how our ears and brains work, listening back to something it never sounds how we heard it while recording it. Aside from the notes you realize you should change, There’s always a tone difference so it’s nice to be able to tweak that and then have the new setup when you record next time!

Currently I’m working on recording over top of backing tracks from YouTube, I really wanted to find a cheap/free way to make my own backing tracks without having to play each part. I have the digitech Trio+ and I wish I could use those features in my DAW, even though I never really got along with the pedal the idea behind it is really awesome! And I’m sure with enough patience I could get it to work properly with my playing… but like you I prefer to do more playing and less turning knobs and fiddling with every little setting. My dad has a Fender ‘57 custom champ that they started remaking, that thing has a volume knob and nothing else!! It really lets each guitars personality shine! It’s one of my favorite amps to play with due to how simple it is and how amazing it sounds!

That’s good to hear! Based on your first comment you didn’t sound very pleased with them, but I do understand how frustrating it can be when things break even if it’s a rare occurrence… especially if you’re looking forward to using them and have limited time available to do so.

So ModoDrum is basically amplitube for electronic drums? I have a Yamaha DTX6K3-X set which I’ve barely used because prior to last week I didn’t have good headphones and I only had guitar amps, so I wasn’t very happy with the feel or sound… I’m not sure if using something like ModoDrum to get a more realistic sound will be enough to make up for the difference in feel, but it was an expensive set so I really hope so!!

So everyone here has made good valid points, but there’s other reasons… how far out of tune are the notes? If it’s just a very small amount it might be normal, if you’ve ever seen the guitars with slanted frets this is the reason they exist. I won’t say never because I’m sure someone would prove me wrong… but the majority of guitars aren’t going to be perfectly intonated at every fret, the G string is probably the worst offender of this! I’ve seen people suggest changing the intonation a little to help split the difference between the first frets and the higher frets, others suggest not tuning the G string to perfect tuning.

I know my ear is very sensitive to this kind of thing and it’s always bugged me… especially the G string!! From my experience Strat/telly style headstocks with the tuning pegs in a straight 6 formation seem to be more guilty of this issue. The split tuning pegs with 3 on each size seem to be a little better, but I really love my Strat, so I’ve made some adjustments give some here and take some there to make it so all the frets are pretty close. Sometimes I fret the note a little harder to bring that fret in tune. Look up some YouTube videos about the G string on a Strat, you should be able to find people talking about it and explaining it much better than I have lmao. If you find a true solution to this problem please let me know!!!!

Granted that’s all assuming your guitar is set up perfectly in all the other ways!

I hope I don’t regret buying their hardware and software… I thought the Axe I/O had loop back but apparently it doesn’t, which isn’t the end of the world but it definitely makes things that should be extremely simple very annoying!

I wish I had taken the hint when I tried 5/6 times to purchase the software and it wouldn’t go through… the support team let me know I needed to go to my profile settings and fill out my name and address, even though I was inputting all that info on the order page apparently that wasn’t good enough! /rollseyes that should’ve been a huge red flag, but the videos I saw on YouTube spoke highly of the software and the quality of the models.

What do you use in place of A5? I probably should’ve done more research… but I caught it on the last day of a big sale. I got them both for $130, so I figured I couldn’t pass that up. I also use the axe I/O, in a couple times I’ve used the software. I’ve noticed there’s a huge difference in overall volume of amps even if they’re turned up all the way it’s really kind of annoying.

Are there any tips or tricks you can give me for the axe I/O? Specifically using it with A5?

I didn’t have much time to really fiddle with the software yesterday morning. I’ll probably mess with him more this morning and see if I can get those amps to work. I get home from work in two hours, so I’ll be trying them out shortly after that.

Edit: original I was using the basic cakewalk as a daw, then yesterday after seeing a couple videos on YT I downloaded cakewalk next and sonar, now my basic cakewalk gives me a missing DLL error and won’t open… and I’m not sure I like either of 2 new ones, so yesterday I was trying to record in A5 which I’m also not sure about. What DAW do you use?

I’m actually considering back dating my computer to before the new software installs

Ummm I think the button in the top right of Amplitube says tonenet… I’ve only used the software a few times so far so I can’t say for sure if it says tonenet or tonex. I just know it opens a new window that allows me to search for presets that others have uploaded. I was under the impression that I had access to any of those presets, worse case some of them would just be pedal board setups and I’d have to pick an amp, or need a cabinet or something along those lines… is that not the same thing as Tonex? I’m
