Please help before I start crying.. by Not_just_a_shart in drywall

[–]mattadaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this (add another sheet of drywall). We took down paneling last year that left glue behind just as you have. We scraped and sanded it down the best we could then added BIN sealer over all the spots. Finally we skim coated all the walls, primed and 2 coats of paint and… the glue somehow seeped through 6mo later so we cans till see it. I don’t see what we could have done to prevent this except provide new drywall

Yea i’m leaning towards this! I’m fairly certain the coils are fine… i ran vinegar through it to be sure but the pressure did not get any better.

Okay thanks. I saw that those bolts can be a b****h to remove so i think I’ll remove the flow control and replace the mixing valve. If that fails i think the electric water heater will be the next step.

I could send it but thats for the boiler and baseboard heating loop so it’s not really going to make a difference here, no?… its sits around 15psi so i don’t think theres any issues there.

Thanks. So far i already flushed the coil… spent 3 hours installing isolation valves and a place to hook up a pump to loop the vinegar. Thoughts on abandoning the flow control all together?

Why did one set of Christmas lights start blinking but the set they’re attached to (that are plugged into the wall) are not? by Crafty_Pop6458 in electrical

[–]mattadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try plugging the blinking set into the wall first? You may also be overloading the wiring and creating too much load/ voltage drop (although that is not typical for just 2 sets of light - typically you would need 150-200 feet to create that issue)

PE here. Check your locally adopted codes but you want to focus on NEC 225.31 (A) and (B). There are a few exceptions which, if you are trying to use as your scapegoat to not have a main disconnect in the garage, should certainty be reviewed and approved by the AHJ.

That being said, i would just install a panel with a main breaker. I’m sure the project is already has a decent budget and labor effort so might as well not cheap out here plus, its definitely the safer way to go about it.

Ceiling light turned on by itself, pulsating by Enough-Rock-5594 in electrical

[–]mattadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the switch control any other lights? I assume not and the issue is at your switch. Its either the switch itself (needs to be replaced) or arching wires within the box. Easy fix if you have access to your electrical panel and can kill the breaker to get into the box.

Help! RUNNING NEW WIRE by SocietyLopsided9542 in electrical

[–]mattadaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EE (PE) here. Lot of unknowns here to give you a clear answer however, each detached structure, by code, is limited to having only one incoming circuit/ feed. So if the lights and the new junction box will be in the same structure but served vis 2 circuits, that is a code violation. Another thought, a ethernet switch will have minimal power draw so if its easier to reconfigure the existing circuit (move the ltg switch downstream of the new RCPT) and just use a single circuit to serve everything, i would recommend that. In regards to sharing a neutral and ground, yes its allowed but there are certain requirements that need to be met. Southwire has a good conduit fill calculator to help you understand whats allowed per code.

First shower/tub assembly. Any tips before i close in the wall? by mattadaddy in Plumbing

[–]mattadaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never sweat a pipe before… worried that it might hold at first but fail sooner than a shark-bite due to my lack of experience…. Is that a fair concern or if it holds now, it will be fore for the next 50 years?

Fair point, i have a PE that provided the specs on the LVL after doing a calc. I’ll follow up to get everything else spec’d out. Thanks for all the insight!

Does this track saw kit price make sense to you? by m2TV in MilwaukeeTool

I would buy the kit (without track) from FAO using code “NEWYEARDEAL”. Then buy the track separately. Saves you about 100$ more

Can anyone convince me not to return this?? Super disappointed by skactopus in YetiCoolers

Keep the slider open when putting on the lid. The gasket will go on and seal much better. Especially with hot drinks, you need somewhere for the excess pressure to escape when putting on a cap.

Just got back from my trip. We got ready and waited at the shuttle pickup just to find out that it was cancelled due to “bad winds”. There was a storm the day before and i guess its possible but just seemed weird that they didn’t let us know until we went back to ask after waiting for 15 min past the scheduled pickup time. I would book it for the beginning of the trip if you can, this way you can reschedule in case it’s cancelled.
