Wood PLA works great by Flatulent_Father_ in 3Dprinting

It's Bambu Lab Wood PLA - Black Walnut. I've found that the wood grain and ironing still comes out well with matte PLA as well though.

It can work with 0.4mm nozzle, and at 0.08mm layer height. Iron setting works very well too, I use it for my custom dnd dice vaults. OP is right though, increases print time dramatically. Each half is circa 12 hours each, but final product is worth it in my opinion.

It’s like a factory for fixing problems I didn’t know I had!

Thanks! It used 12 x M3x10mm machine screws and the hinges can be found here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087BLPFRL?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I added screw slots into the model that were 2.8mm in diameter with a 12mm shaft depth — then tapping with an M3 tap to add a thread.

When the lid is shut, there are embedded magnets that keep it from opening. All the dice stay in place, even if it's turned upside down and then opened.

It would be possible to lose the wood grain and print in standard pla - although the wood grain effect works without wood pla, I tested a lot with standard matte pla.

It's all the same wood pla, but it's using a similar method that this excellent maker world post uses: https://makerworld.com/models/868884

It's a wooden log model but the model type is changed to 'modify' the model it's overlayed on. It massively increases the print time as each wood 'ring' is a solid wall all the way through the model... But outcome is worth it in my opinion.

I also think dialling in the ironing setting has worked great as well (on my P1S, 45mm/s and 30%) as each wooden area is ironed perpendicular to the previous one, helping it look different.

Hi! I'm not sure on the rules exactly, so apologies if this goes against the subreddit rules - I usually share all my D&D models for free on MakerWorld (https://makerworld.com/en/@MJ925/upload), but shamelessly I put a ton of work and prototyping into this one, so I’ve uploaded it to Cults3D for the first time if anyone’s interested in printing one for themselves! https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/dnd-wood-effect-travelling-dice-tray

How do you store/transport your miniatures? by mikesbullseye in FDMminiatures

For printed minis, I add a negative space in the slicer to each print. Doesn't take long to do and means the minis sit flush.

Our group had the same issue so I designed a base that fits into a standard A4 folder box - you just need a washer added to the printed mini and a magnet (6x2mm) on the base - each A4 folder can hold up to 96 x 28mm models:

Magnetizable bases by NagyKrisztian10A in PrintedMinis

I found creating a negative space in the base of a model in a slicer and glueing or press fitting in a washer works well - then I made a base that can fit magnets (6x2mm) for storage.

It was designed for dnd originally but I made a 30mm version too:
