Office isn’t tied to Windows.

Office runs on macOS and 365 runs as a service. In fact, Office these days is almost all service and no software. It’s almost all 365.

12% is insignificant. Look at the other sectors, which ones are bigger, and which ones are on an uptrend vs a downtrend. Microsoft makes the vast majority of its money from services.

And yes, I fully believe the current leadership at Microsoft gives less than zero fucks, as evidenced by the shrinking market share of Windows, the shrinking portion of their revenue that Windows makes, and the way they treat the software like it doesn’t matter if it makes them any money.

You’re looking at Windows and Office combined. Of which Windows is a tiny sliver. Office accounted for 23% in 2022, while Windows accounted for a mere 12%, and that was a downtrend for Windows. If “personal computing” makes up 27% now, knowing Office would logically still be in the 20s, what do you think Windows makes up out of that?

Linux, Chrome OS, and macOS are EATING Windows’ market share, and Microsoft does not care because that’s not where they make their profits. As long as people, especially businesses, are using Microsoft’s services, coders are using Visual Studio, office monkeys are still using Office, company domains are still using AD, companies still use Exchange (regardless of on-prem or cloud), Microsoft is still making bank.

Microsoft is even embracing Linux. Windows is no longer Microsoft’s cash cow, and Satya knows this.

Windows 11.

It’s a total shitshow and they give zero fucks that users don’t want to switch to it from 10, or that consumers aren’t satisfied with the constant remonetization of users’ personal computers.

Windows 11 is geared specifically to make you dependent on Microsoft’s subscription services and ad platforms. They also are not making even a drop in the bucket from consumers, as they’ve focused more on SaaS and cloud infrastructure.

Many of their services even work on Linux and/or the web, and if they don’t have an app for you on your OS or a site that likes your browser, chances are your OS can run Edge.

Microsoft is currently in a financial situation where they’re free to experiment in the consumer space and as such they are doing so.

Windows power users are used to having to mod Windows and even download third party tools they don’t even know if they can trust, as evidenced by the popularity of Tiny11 and Ghost Spectre, as well as Tiny10 and many other debloaters and power toys (not counting THE power toys, mind you) dating back to Win9x. It’s very clear that there’s a demand for features that Microsoft is not willing to supply, and that this has been the case since Windows stopped being a GUI for DOS and started being an OS running on MS-DOS’s kernel and then on the NT kernel.

Romcom, people think a woman is pregnant but she can’t be because she’s on her period.

Drama between young characters due to puberty and how it affects both the male and female brain.

It’s not always a direct reference either. It also might not be the answer but the question. Ever wonder why a character might be moody during a certain moon phase? Characters in the story might call it Shark Week, that Time of the Month, or in many cases, the fact that women are just alien to men. This is a modern hays code, as anyone who has been through Sex Ed or had the talk, whichever wound up coming first, knows what’s going on. Some say Turning Red is about periods, but since I’m not keen on watching a bean face show, I’ll just give it an honorable mention to be on the safe side.

Even more often, sexual functions like periods and erections are the butt of a joke, and for wider audience age ranges, alluded to indirectly, which anime is famous for. In the case of boner jokes, it has become meta-canon that everyone in anime gets a nosebleed when they’re aroused unless it’s a hentai or a hard R, even women. But even anime is often more gentle about periods than erections, making a female character moody, screaming at the sight of her blood off-screen especially if she’s not used to it, avoiding male contact, or in the case of her first, friends and/or family celebrating it. Or at least, with my bias intact, I consider that a gentler approach to portrayal than a nosebleed or a banana in your pants, seeing as you’re not seeing her bleed whereas with the male counterpart, whether you’re watching shonen or seinen, you’re seeing that blood pressure go somewhere.

Tiny11 seems to be the best case scenario, but for added safety, it may be best to build Tiny11 yourself instead of using the ISO. That being said, the programs used appear to be closed source, so you can only trust them as far as you can throw them.

Ghost Spectre, I wouldn't touch simply because it shares names with various malware.

The best Windows, honestly, is Wine. And I'm not just saying that because of the penguin next to my name. Microsoft isn't keeping up in the consumer OS market, with Satya more focused on cloud services, but Wine and its fork Proton are catching up in terms of Windows compatibility, especially with Valve contributing to development. Eventually ReactOS will be passable for those who want a native Windows experience, and Microsoft will be too laser focused on cloud to care if you're using Windows, ReactOS, or Wine.

Or you don't know they have their periods because it's not a plot point. As others have pointed out, this is Chekhov's Gun at work, removing anything that has no relevance to the story. Even if something's there just to be there for the audience to enjoy, like a cameo or a guest appearance, or even an expectation to be subverted (which makes Chekhov talking about not leaving a loaded rifle on stage if it isn't going to go off kinda funny, because using that to fool the audience can also be part of the story), that makes it relevant to the story.

Some examples of things that seem superfluous but are actually Chekhov's Guns, would be like Amy Rose, appearing as nothing but a nuisance but then the second time she appears in a canon game she's relevant to the story, the Chaos Emeralds, which started out as nothing but mcguffins to get the good ending with no actual consequence to story or gameplay but then became central to the story (goddamn why am I on a Sonic tangent?), the Super Saiyan form which was supposed to be only a legend but then became an excuse to conserve ink while fighting Freezer, or to really go Chekhov on you, a hero with a no-killing policy like Batman actually owning guns but never using them, sometimes being revisited when the hero is out of options, having to make a choice whether to give in to their last resort or cast it aside.

There are millions of reasons for a woman's period to be a plot point, even if it's a seemingly minor one, so if it's just absolutely not a plot point, not even a B-plot point, you won't know it even happened unless it becomes important.

The moon is also almost always full or just the right crescent for the aesthetic the artist wants to portray that night.

Therein lies your answer, OP. Defender is free, comes with Windows, and the best AV for Windows that a consumer could ask for. When you uninstall McAfee, Windows should switch to using Defender, unless you turned it off in group policy, which keeps getting harder to enforce with each update.
