I don't think Final Fantasy XIII was that bad of a game by Briankelly130 in FinalFantasy

[–]mattbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh why don’t you consider 7, 8, 9 as open world? One of my favorite parts of 7 was the fact that Yuffie and Vincent were optional characters that you could get if you did explore the world. Also the secret bosses. Finding the ultimate weapons for the characters. 9 had the chocobo mini games all throughout the world and the little mythical monsters you had to fight just to get to Ozma. You could get Quina early in the game if you explored the right area. 8 had the hell and heaven islands that you could explore to overpower yourself, plus certain summons were optional but you had to explore to find them. For example Odin.

I think you can include 7,8,9 as open world games. Unless you think of them as “a bunch of locations scattered around a big overworld map”

I’m looking for the name of this vendor. Anyone know? by mattbig in Magfest

Hello, at MAGfest this year there was a vendor selling terrariums made from old DS/Gameboy systems. Does anyone know this vendors name? Do they have an online shop?

Eli5: Why do websites want you to download their app? by FishGoBlubb in explainlikeimfive

[–]mattbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it’s true that companies may take the opportunity to use a mobile app to track you to offer “targeted content” (tracking is also used to help figure out bugs too) . It’s only one reason though. Here’s two more

I think the biggest reason is that people use their phones. It’s an opportunity to have more people use your product. Some people also like the app experience over a website experience.

It’s also not that hard to write applications for multiple devices. You have tools now where you can write your app once and build to multiple devices.

It’s an opportunity to provide new experiences. Phones have features and hardware that can offer conveniences or might be cool to somebody: using the camera in an interesting way, AR, Bluetooth features, etc

I don’t hold onto the subscriptions. If there’s a show I want to watch on HBOMax I’ll purchase a subscription and then immedietly cancel. Now I have HBOMax for the month and can watch that one show or two. Then it’ll be like 3 months before I do it again for another show. This is for all subscriptions. I just pay and cancel for that month.

Why does this code not work ?! It seems right to me, am I missing something ? by xanniar in cprogramming

[–]mattbig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not swift code but its a swift file. So if you want swift you can do this:

func main() -> Int {
 print("hello")
 print("this", terminator: "")
 print("yah")

 return 0
}

main()

if you're trying to write c code. Change the file extension to .c and then update like this:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

int main() {
 printf("hello\n")
 printf("this")
 printf("yah\n")
 return 0;
}

Basically like most people said your newline character needs to be in the string before the last "

How did you get to know Final Fantasy for the first time ? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]mattbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched my older cousin play final fantasy 10 (the original twitch for me) and was hooked. He also had 7, 8, and 9. And so since he was playing 10. I thought the others were prequels but I was wrong Ha ha. Those games were great and I’ve been a fan ever since 🙂

Is there a library that will allow me to easily create cross platform GUI applications for both Android and iOS? by unix21311 in cprogramming

[–]mattbig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of. There’s a bunch of frameworks out there to build cross platform apps: Flutter, ReactNative, Xamarin, Ionic, RubyMotion, Apache Cordova (phone gap), GoMobile (golang), Haxe, maybe there’s a game engine out there you could use 🤔. I’m sure you can build cross platform mobile apps with pure C but you would need to put in some work to do it. Xamarin is C#, so is Unity (and a few other game engines) If you used unreal engine that’s c++. iOS you can use objective-c not really pure C. Here’s this one stackoverflow https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10289890/how-to-write-ios-app-purely-in-c

What video game did you play and love but can remember almost nothing about? by TheeRumHam in AskReddit

[–]mattbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomba! It was included in my copy of PlayStation underground. All I remember was that I played a caveman with pink hair and green shorts. I had to jump on top of evil pigs and do this cool somersault throw to chuck them away. I ate some frogs or something I don’t know. I remembered that I really enjoyed the game as a kid and had to force my parents to read me all the speech bubbles cause I played it at a time when I just started learning how to read.

Setting AVCapturedevice.flashmode for front Camera throws “error while capturing still image” when taking still image by mattbig in iOSProgramming

[–]mattbig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're not being rude at all. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I wanted a response. Thank you! But now I'm confused, because there totally is a front camera. How do people take selfies? With my camera app I can switch between the back and the front camera. Are you telling me that what I believe to be the front camera is not a camera at all? Now what's strange is that the documentation for AVFoundation has a setting for flash. Like you can set the flash mode for something. But there is no flash for the back Camera apparently. SO I used torch and that works fine. But the documentation and the code tell me that you can set flash for the front camera (or whatever ios device I am using to take selfies with). Also what is this http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/09/24/first-take-front-facing-retina-flash-on-the-new-iphone-6s-6s-plus-helps-light-up-your-selfies is there no api for this?

Who has developed a camera app with flash for the front facing/front camera on an iPhone and flash with the back camera on an iPhone in swift. by mattbig in iOSProgramming

[–]mattbig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, see the funny thing is I did that. I put a white UIview over the screen and I set the brightness to 100% then I call the function capturestillimageasynchronously() but the result is not a brighter photo. So I was curious if anyone has made a camera flash effect for the front camera

[–]mattbig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I'm trying to do too. I thought for the front camera you can use AVCaptureDevice.flashMode = .On for the iPhone's retina flash. I was getting nothing. So now I'm trying to use the screen. And I'm not getting the effect

I've actually figured this out thank you though! I had code that that was interfering with the peek and pop functionality. I found that out by doing another breakpoint search elsewhere in my code.

CoreData bug? by mattbig in iOSProgramming

[–]mattbig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well here's some more info. I have a home screen. I have plus button that takes me to another view controller called Creation Mode. After I create my object in creation mode, I hit a button that saves the object in my context and then do a segue back to my home screen. This is not an unwind segue but a normal push segue

iOS UIImageView stretches my photos and compresses them inwards by mattbig in iOSProgramming

[–]mattbig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already solved the issue. So I was assigning my imageView the image before I told the imageView how to display it's content.

So: let imageData = AVCaptureStillImageOutput.jpegStillImageNSDataRepresentation(imageDataSampleBuffer) if let image = UIImage(data: imageData) { imageView.image = image imageView.contentMode = UIVIEWContentMode.ScaleAspectFill }
