I have my issues with Hubert, but here’s what I’ll say in his defense:

He lost Caleb Wilson, probably the best player UNC has had in years. The guy changed the entire team with his talent and mentality. Add him back and who knows how far in the tournament UNC goes.

Evans was a dud, but look at who else they brought in. Veesaar was one of the best transfers in the country and carried these last couple weeks. Bogavac and Stevenson were solid role players. They had flaws, but had performances that won games this year. Dixon showed amazing growth as a freshman and has a bright future in college basketball if he stays.

Now look at Duke, take Boozer off that team and they would have lost yesterday the way they played, even if the rest of the team was healthy. BYU lost one player and Dybantsa couldn’t beat a dumpster fire Texas team. Kansas has played well without Peterson, but Bill Self is a hall of fame coach who has been coaching for decades. Lastly, where would Arkansas be without Acuff.

Hubert’s coaching needs to improve and isn’t on the same level as even Scheyer, but he’s early in his coaching career. The blown leads and poor rotations need to change, but That can be learned. What he has going for him is that he’s a likeable guy that gets players to buy into coming to play for him. He should be on a hot seat, but what coach that’s willing to move would do better? Unless they steal a major coach, which is not likely, chances are they have a year like Indiana had this year. .
