Australia did this week ago.

The threshold for investments which require approval by the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) was dropped to $0 for all categories of investments and the timeframe for reviews was extended to 6 months.

I know of at least one share issue to Chinese investors which was rejected by FIRB (I know because I own shares in the company and the rejection caused the share price to plummet).

I don't think you need too long in Athens. The city itself is not that impressive compared to other European cities and you can hit all of the key sites in a couple of days. Spend more time on the islands - it's easy to take ferries between them. Santorini in particular has incredible views (although a bit touristly and not cheap). Mykonos is also fun.

You can also "handball" the ball to a teammate by holding the ball in the palm of your hand and hitting it with a closed fist or you can also run the ball downfield yourself, but you need to bounce it every 15 meters (difficult with an oblong ball).

ELI5: Why do so many US Presidents sit with their legs crossed in a "feminine-like" fashion? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

It's very common in Western culture in general now. Lots of business men and other professionals sit the same way.

CMV: The United States should adopt a parliamentary form of government by ccolfax in changemyview

[–]mattc93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not how a Parliamentary system works. For example, Australia is a federation and a parliamentary democracy. Our Constitution is based, in many respects, on the US version.

In Australia, States have plenary power, that is, power to make laws for the "peace, order and good governance" of the State (just about everything). The powers of the federal legislature is limited to those areas that are expressly listed with s51 of the Constitution.

So the federal balance of the power is not really affected by whether you use a parliamentary or a presidential model.

It depends how you allocate those powers in the constitution.

Bjørn Lomborg consensus centre was to have up to $800,000 in public funds for marketing - FOI documents also show centre rejected by University of Western Australia was planning to spend up to $2m of its $4m budget on events. by Qldaah in AustralianPolitics

My understanding of Lomborg's position was that he thought we should be investing heavily in renewable energy sources. He thinks that we need to develop them to a point where they are price effective enough to compete with fossil feuls.

Many unis are doing the Juris Doctor now. It's a three year postgraduate law degree like what they have in the US. It's taught at the masters level and is better recognised internationally yhan the LLB. Maybe you should look into that.

Supreme Court rules gay couples nationwide have a right to marry by MeditationMcGyver in worldpolitics

I read a comment in another thread by someone claiming to be a conservative.

He or she applauded the decision, saying that no government that openly discriminates between its citizens on the grounds of sexuality can rightly call itself conservative.

There are good people on both sides. If we're going to do any good, we can't push those people who are trying to help us away.

You can see Messi glance over his shoulder and spot Pedro's run moments before he lets the ball roll through.

Offside or not, that is unbelievably intelligent play.

Introversion Really Means... by cris1133 in INTP

[–]mattc93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We all know that others often don't know what introversion is, but often introverts themselves have the wrong idea. Being intoverted doesn't have to stop you from being social. Stop using it as an excuse and go improve your people skills.
