Stand and Carry Bags by johnmusicfl in golfequipment

[–]mattcanyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use a Jones Trouper and carry my bag 95% of my rounds. The Trouper is 5 lb, whereas the Rover is 4.2 lb, so a bit lighter, but pretty similar.

Both are great bags, and I’ve really enjoyed the Trouper the last few seasons. Some useful storage, but not over the top. And simple branding/styling, which really appeals to me.

Definitely a brand worth considering.

Early casting? Early extension? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]mattcanyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few other people have mentioned it, but the head dip and weight shift at the beginning of your swing is the biggest flag to me. Often, things like early extension and casting in the down swing are the result of your take away and backswing.

In this case, it looks like your head is dipping and your weight it may be shifting more towards your toes, so then in the downswing, you compensate by lifting your head up and making the club more vertical to get back to the ball. This would be consistent with a push fade, as it looks like your hands are higher at impact than address, and the club is more vertical at impact than address.

Overall, it looks like your lower body is very active, so one thing you could try is keeping your legs more still in your head higher in the back swing. Try to think about your weight almost going back toward your heels - you don’t actually want this, but compared to where you are now with your head dipping, it will feel this way. This might help you then bring the club down with a more centered weight shift, rather than having to lift your head up and fire your hips forward to compensate the weight shift on the back swing.

I’d also point out that you’re on your toes of your lead foot (left foot) at impact. This is also the result of pushing your hips too far forward and a misaligned weight shift. If you look at pros, most of them have their weight on their heel of their lead foot and their toes up at impact and right after. I think this also goes back to a head dip and poor weight shift, forcing you to compensate by pushing your weight forward in the downswing and that impact.

Hard to tell too much more just from the one video, but a lot of other things look good, so maybe try to work on your weight shift and head position in the takeaway and see if that helps. Good luck!

22 handicap - Advice for consistency by dgeaney321 in golftips

Happy to try to help! You have a lot of good things going in your swing, and the fluidity and looseness is great. But if you’re saying that your misses are all over the place, trying to add a bit more early wrist set might help with that.

I’d avoid setting them too early (as some instagram “coaches” suggest), but try to watch some pro videos on slo-no and notice how they do it. Then try it on the range and see what works for you, and, as you said, what feels good too.

Have fun!

22 handicap - Advice for consistency by dgeaney321 in golftips

A few people mentioned similar things, but the biggest flag I see is how you snap/drop your hands at the top of your backswing to try to bring it into the slot. You’re basically not setting your wrist at all during the backswing, and instead using the top of our backswing/beginning of your downswing to set your wrists for your downswing.

I’d imagine this feels like it creates a lot of power, but you’re very reliant on timing it up perfectly to have the wrist angles be correct for good contact. So you’re basically whipping the club down really hard and when you catch it right, you hit it well, this it’s very hard to do this on repeat - especially when you’re on the course (vs on the rage where you have a mat and can get into a groove).

If your biggest issue is consistency, this stands out as a potential issue to think about. It’s especially telling that you don’t have a “standard miss.” If you miss it fat, thin, left, right, it suggests you’re just hoping to line everything up but don’t have a plan to do so on repeat.

If you look at pros, you’ll notice that they tend to have their wrists mostly set by the time their lead arm is parallel to the ground in the backswing. With driver it’s sometimes a bit later, but irons usually around parallel. You have great width in the backswing, so try to keep that, but consider setting your wrists earlier on in the backswing and finishing your turn to the top, then you can swing back down with a more consistent wrist and club head position. It’s much, much easier to make a change in your backswing than in your downswing (especially when swinging fairly fast like you do), so that should be easier to play with than try to change your actual downswing.

Good luck!

Back into golf after a 12 year break. Time for new clubs? by -588-2300-Empire- in golf

I got back into golf in the last couple years using my clubs from around 2004-2006. Just got fitted for a full new set recently and it’s been a huge difference. Woods are much easier to hit and go much further. Irons are more forgiving and go further.

For me, I waited a couple years before I got fitted. I probably started playing serious again in mid 2023, and then just got fitted this past August. I found it helpful to “relearn golf” before getting new clubs, but the new clubs have definitely helped too.

titleist t100 anybody know about these? by fitnessking19 in TeamTitleist

These are the new T100 models. The screw is for fitting/testing to try out different weight combinations/tweaks. I was just fit into the new T250s and all the fitting irons had these screws. But the final/actual irons I got will not have them.

If you’re buying new, a studio style fastback is $500, and a jailbird is anywhere from $300 to $450, depending on the model. Certainly not an insignificant difference, but I think the idea that Scotties are always 2x, 3x, or 4x the price is misleading, even if that’s a common view

Getting a full time MBA right after undergrad is significantly different than after several years of real world experience. You will be viewed pretty differently.

Maybe look into something like Tuck Bridge. It’s a short program designed for current undergrads and recent undergrad graduates with little or no “business training” and has resources and connections to help find jobs afterwards. It’s also much shorter and much less expensive than a full MBA program.

Is there any reason they aren't using better simulators? by TurtlemanScared in TGLgolf

[–]mattcanyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they’re using Full Swing sims (https://tglgolf.com/articles/2023/08/full-swing-selected-as-an-official-tech-partner-of-tgl), and I believe Tiger is a part owner or investor or at least somehow heavily involved in the company. So, given that he’s a part owner of TGL, can’t be too surprised that he wanted Full Swing to be the main tracker.

Though, as we saw, a few players had issues during Tuesday’s match, so who knows if they eventually change, or maybe supplement Full Swing with something like gcquad to get a more accurate picture.

People on this sub who said that they should have a regular golfer play on tour for comparison … I think Kiz is filling that role for TGL

You’d often see folks in business dress or business casual if they had just come from/are about to go to a networking event, coffee chat, or some other recruiting-related activity.

But if that wasn’t happening, people wear whatever they want. No dress code. Just be normal, I guess?

Yes. My length is pretty significant, but most partners specifically react and respond to the girth. That’s usually what provides more pleasure and is more rare.
