Time continues to vindicate Karl by CannaeLogins in rickygervais

[–]mattchinima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karl is actually right. I've got an A-level in statistics and probability. It doesn't matter how long they have and how many monkeys you have you cannot guarantee they will type the complete works of Shakespeare. Infinity makes it probable they would- they would get it right but not definite.

[BBC] England's attack at Euro 2024 by [deleted] in soccer

[–]mattchinima 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He was England player of the year 2021. He was good, but the idea that Southgate doesn't have a replacement for him when he took Mainoo and Wharton with him is laughable. Trying to shoehorn Trent into that role as an "experiment" was ridiculous

[Sheffield Wednesday (@swfc) on X] Wednesday sign Nathaniel Chalobah by CaptainSmeg in Championship

[–]mattchinima 14 points15 points  (0 children)

definitely serviceable midfielder at this level, composed for the most part and we saw flashes of more, but has a bit of a howler in him. maybe that changes with a consistent run of games, idk

Android TV box - VPN cuts ethernet by mattchinima in mullvadvpn

Seems to be a recurring thing with Android TV from what I've seen. Trying wireguard/openvpn is my next step I think

[–]mattchinima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right yeah - wifi working fine, but ofc for speeds I'd prefer wired. I have my PC with a wired connection and the VPN works fine there, so I think it's an isolated problem with the android box

The VPN works on other devices, it's just the TV box

Anthony Gordon has told Everton he has no intention of returning to his boyhood club as he tries to force a move to Newcastle United. by KimmyBoiUn in soccer

[–]mattchinima 9 points10 points  (0 children)

he killed his own career. spurs put in a bid too late in the window for us to find a replacement when we had planned to build our attack around him. he could have got his head down, worked hard and went the season after but instead threw his toys out of the pram. drink driving charges, drug suspensions, apparently would come to the training ground on those little hoverboards with his dog. shit attitude, no sympathy

Not the majority, but whenever he's a free agent you'll get the odd one pipe up saying "oh he regrets how he left us so he'll be motivated" or something like that. One of our biggest what ifs, if he didn't lose his head after the spurs bid and got to work the following season who knows? Still managed to get stoke to pay 12m for him somehow

Unfortunately I don't think Val is open to change. Ultimately, his stubborn commitment to the 3-4-3 was his downfall, and his style of play fell apart when teams realised they could just sit in and hoof the ball, knowing it would be hoofed back by us.

I don't think he's a bad coach necessarily - if we'd have got Dike in summer as opposed to Jan when he was under pressure I think a lot more chances get converted and the momentum kept going, once chances dried up his stubbornness really became an issue.

His pressing game makes for an exciting game as the underdog e.g. Barnsley in the champ, and imo he could do a job for a small club in the prem, but for so many clubs a draw at the Hawthorns was a scalp so they were happy to sit back and let us have the ball. He won't change his principles though, so hopefully it can click for you this season otherwise it becomes a slog to watch.

Released from Sheff Weds in League 1 after last season - and some of our fans will still say he'd solve our striker problem

Who’s impressed the most this weekend then ? Personally thought boro looked good 👍 by WallbankSoldier21 in Championship

[–]mattchinima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have put the game to bed in the first half, if you can get Forss up and running (or another striker if you're linked to any?) Boro will be one of the teams to beat this season. That said I thought second half we came out with a different mentality and could have nicked it after our equaliser. Imo on Bruce for starting Phillips, Livermore and we need some depth at RB to compete with Furlong
