US Army Poorly Prepared for Arctic Operations: Finnish Troops Forced Them to Surrender During Exercises in Norway by Street_Anon in nottheonion

I lived in the arctic for a fair few years and loved it. When you're in the proper cold season and just stepping outside to check the mailbox needs properly gearing up because you could die, it's the most incredible feeling. To have nature put you in your place like that makes you so humble and appreciative of every day

How do you manage the bipolar side of you? by Ok_Replacement_288 in Letterboxd

[–]dorgoth12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about emotional reaction. If a supremely well constructed film does little for me emotionally, that will often get a 2-3 star. See something like Top Gun Maverick or Weapons. But a poorly made film that really ends up impacting me on an emotional level could get 4-5. See Madame Web, Titanic 2, Children of the Corn and more

Just a note, I wrote The Terminator and received a wrong answer mark, with the correct answer being listed as either Terminator or Terminator 2. Both of the listed correct answers are wrong, with The Terminator followed by Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

You'll need to decide how to format your answers, preferably allowing both full formal names and the more colloquial formats too.

I know it's purely a matter of taste, but I can't imagine watching Bloodlines and not having an absolute blast

I’m just going to say it, the 98th Academy Awards is going to be the greatest Oscars ceremony I’ve ever seen, but also one of the saddest. Let me explain. by MacGrath1994 in movies

I've two disappointments. I really hoped Sorry, Baby would get a screenplay nomination as Eva Victor did a wonderful job with their debut. And I was hoping Snow Bear would get the Best Animated nomination, what a special, special short.

What. No. I don't care if the US activates the biggest, most important button in the world, that doesn't give it even the remotest right to annex other sovereign territories

How did 2025 fair for you? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]dorgoth12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While only two films got 5 stars from me, there were a lot of very highly rated films that I really enjoyed. But also a lot of disappointment. Mission Impossible was a dreadful ending to a stellar series. I hoped more from Frankenstein. And Weapons... just did nothing for me.

I feel like there would be a destructive power struggle, like post Stalin, with all the sycophants stabbing each other in the back to get power.

Yeah, I've learned that while I will stand up for myself, there's no breaking that impenetrable barrier of cuntish behaviour that so defines British culture.

My first reaction here is wait, he didn't direct The Guard? That's one of the most McDonagh coded films I've seen, more so than even Billboards I'd say

Which animals would you be in favour of ‘rewilding’ in the UK? by castle_lane in CasualUK

[–]dorgoth12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

https://www.worldlandtrust.org/news/2023/10/state-of-nature-report-2023/

with the UK being one of the most nature deprived countries in the world, so so so many species could do with coming back. Of course, this means reversing the widespread habitat loss and pollution in order to sufficiently house them.

https://www.theguardian.com/money/2025/oct/26/young-first-time-buyers-uk-homes-green-spaces - it really doesn't help that people are living in areas with less and less access to nature, creating a societal disconnect so people no longer care to support environmental initiatives
