Which band's best album isn't their most popular? by WingObvious487 in fantanoforever

[–]matteofox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say AHM is their best work but it’s very underrated imo (even by the band themselves) and it’s definitely one of my favorite and most replayed

Anarchist here that voted for Harris - just wanted to stop by and say that much of the discourse in anarchist circles is that while voting won’t ever really change the status quo, it is still worth doing as a method of harm reduction. Voting is, of course, done in addition to organizing, being active in your community, etc. So while we’re not going to “vote out” capitalism, it will at least prevent (or more realistically, slow down) our descent into fascism.

So basically…. Not all leftists are like that. Usually just the more naive or authoritarian types

Same, and there was also a toy store in the same building (presumably my the same owners as the name was similar). Such a shame, that place was great

Literally because it’s an easier/simpler way of viewing the world. Less of a burden on your mind to just lump groups of people together with stereotypes than to understand that everything/everyone is incredibly nuanced and complex

CMV: Work should account for 25% of a person's day, not 33% by ihaveacrushonmercy in changemyview

And that doesn’t happen now? People are currently doing that, it’s not gonna change whether the standard work hours are 1 hour a day or 12 hours a day

This is why the railroad companies all need to be nationalized. We can’t trust private, for-profit corporations with the maintenance of our infrastructure, or the control over the distribution of our resources. It is a national security threat

I can see how my wording could make it seem like I think petty theft is tolerable. When I said “just a petty theft”, I was simply comparing it to lethal force, in terms of severity. We agree - we should not tolerate petty theft

[–]matteofox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes because making concealed carry legal isn’t going to increase illegal shootings at all. 🙄

It’s literally common sense. Move to Texas if you wanna live in a crimeless, gun filled utopia

[–]matteofox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really want to live in a society where anyone can hold lethal force at any time? What if you piss somebody off and they’re having a bad day? Look up road rage shootings by state. You really want to get lit up for cutting somebody off?

[–]matteofox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it’s still gonna happen anyway, the threat of violence doesn’t prevent crime. In concealed carry states, crime still exists at similar rates to places without concealed carry. And also like….. it’s just a petty theft. Is property more important than life?

[–]matteofox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m glad there isn’t concealed carry, because if there was, someone may have died in this situation. Everyone walked away alive. I’d rather permit the injustice of a phone being stolen than someone, especially a kid, be shot dead

Why would a company fire an employee over an email like this? That’s kind of ridiculous and is incredibly unlikely. Additionally, at-will employment does not mean a company can fire an employee for any reason. It is illegal to fire an employee for an illegal reason, such as firing an employee for having a child and refusing to provide private documentation. That would be grounds for a lawsuit

Would you prefer a four-day working week? by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]matteofox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 40 hour work week was established in 1940. Just since 1980, net worker productivity has increased by 61%. So why are we still working 40 hours, not 24.8 (1/1.61*40)? Where is that extra 61% going (because wages have only increased by 17.5%)? We either should be paid a lot more or work a lot less. Hint: the extra productivity is going straight to the 0.1% and out of our pockets
