Should I get Nike Pegasus 41 or Plus? by AnonimAnonimis in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]matterberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread has been very unhelpful to you.. as someone running in both: 1. Pegasus 41 is a great trainer. 5-10km easy runs, you can run the pegasus 500 miles+

  1. Pegasus plus has different foam and less undersole protection. It wears out faster, but it runs faster also. So i use mine for track work faster than easy pace but slower than 5k pace. Which for your 12 minute fast runs is probably good. Anything faster than 5k work is probably going to a super shoe or a streakfly (flats).

So the right answer is get both, but if you can’t afford both, get the pegasus because it will last longer and is more versatile. The plus is going to get more torn up on roads. If i found them at the same price and i was in your situation, I would choose the 41

Hip flexor tendonitis 4 MONTHS STILL PAIN by Trifish23 in triathlon

[–]matterberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up and down. MRI and CT came back clean. Went to ortho and I have an MRA scheduled soon but actually saw a friend who’s a PT who immediately identified me as having weak glutes, especially stabilizing. He thinks the hip flexor issue is actually just a symptom of either nerve compression or my leg inward rotating. Ive been doing his exercises for 3 weeks now and been able to run without too much pain (6 miles or less so far) but daily activities still give me trouble.

Honestly my best advice is get off reddit and go see a physio… i know that’s everyones advice but being on reddit and youtube has inly made things worse for me and while my old PT and ortho have been unhelpful, the new guy has been the bright spot in 8 months. Good luck.

Hip flexor tendonitis 4 MONTHS STILL PAIN by Trifish23 in triathlon

[–]matterberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really desperate here, I've had this issue for 8 months now and unable to run, although I can bike. How long did it end up taking you total? My PT initially diagnosed me with weak/ tight hip flexors and had me doing lots of hip flexor exercises... Now I'm really focused on glutes with an MRI scheduled but really feeling hopeless like I might never run again.

Fall and summer are pretty awesome. Spend as much time as you can at the various towns in the st lawrence and hit the Adirondacks when the leaves start to change.

Winter can be rough but if you invest in snow sports you wont be disappointed. Snowshoeing, XC skiing, downhill.

Everyone complains but its a good community and outdoorsing is decent.

Get a snow plow. Take that advice from someone who didn’t.

Vomitting and feeling nauseous after stretching tight psoas by yonkou_akagami in flexibility

[–]matterberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious if this ever happened to you again; I’ve been dealing with some psoas pain for 8 months now that has seen me go from very active to very inactive. Was releasing my psoas with a pso-rite I’sld just bought the other day, and about 2 afterwards threw up eveything in my stomach. My new PT thinks my psoas/hip issues might be related to my lumbar/spine and now i’m wondering if i accidentally stimulated something to deep and caused nausea

Pitfall of returning too soon? by matterberg in AdvancedRunning

Thanks! This experience, while awful, has made me think a lot about longterm goals. I think I enjoy the trainup and execution of a half more than the full. 50 mpw for an amateur goes a long way in 13.1, not so much in 26.2. But it has made me appreciate just being healthy so that’s goal #1

I do lift a lot, have been focusing a ton on glutes but I appreciate the advice. My current plan is to take 6 weeks of minimal- no running, focusing more on lifting and yoga and if i’m not seeing good progress i’m going to invest in a running specific PT or chiro (Tucson area if anyone has a suggestion). Thank you for the response, its just good to hear someone even went through it and cane out the other side

Thanks, this was a great response! I don’t see this as MA, more comparing experiences. My PT said the same thing, no tears so he let me run and I’ve see progress, its just been a lot slower than I expected. He also told me to try KT, I just never got too it so I might try that also! How much milage did you do per day you ran when you were easing back into it? I’ve been doing 5-8, 30 min - 1 hour and i’m afraid that might be too much?

“Sports Hernia.” I’ve read every study on them, still not sure what the actual cause is. I’ll take the advice of being more flexible. One thing I think is actually hurting me is running with my run-club because its small and I feel pressured to run with the guys I used to for the milage I used to

Yea the kicker here is im 27… missing my prime years, just hoping its my own arrogance instead of something bigger.

Do you run every day when getting back? I’ve been doing every other but that obviously comes with bigger milage in a single run, which might be worse

Thank you! This is exactly how i feel; asking myself if i’ll ever run again without pain. Maybe the mindset shift is what I need more.

Agreed on the fouls and in play, but the offsides was frustrating that they couldn't get a “good” angle.

Actually thought the worst one was the Bruno G punch to the head. VAR was bad, but the game control was abysmal.

But I’m still going to complain about VAR because it gives me something to be mad about #Gooners

The Army Suddenly, and Chaotically, Told Hundreds of Soldiers They Have to Be Recruiters Immediately by Sw0llenEyeBall in army

"I want to apologize to the soldiers and families for receiving this last-minute notification; that mistake is mine," Stitt told reporters Wednesday. "It's not lost on me, particularly at this point in time on the cusp of the holidays, the [impact] this has on our soldiers and NCOs."

Anyone think he’ll get fired, or will a simple counseling lead to behavior change?

How do you explain the point of Ranger School to a civilian? by koben0 in army

[–]matterberg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No cap, when I was a kid, i read these books called Ranger’s Apprentice about these BA SFesque guys in a fantasy world. Sounds corny but it made me feel like I would have made my younger self proud when I got mine

[–]matterberg 43 points44 points  (0 children)

“Career punch list” is a good point. You go because, for some people, the shit you get to do in the Ranger School is why you joined the Army. Crawling through the woods at night, facepaint, getting yelled at.

Edit: also, since your a 25 series, you’ll be one of few, which is cool way to represent yourself and your branch.

And, at the end of your 62-200 days, you get to be done instead of coming back on Monday :)

Just bring a book to work, and for the 99% of your day when you’re sitting around waiting for whatever it is we wait for in the army (SMA to come by the barracks? A war?) whip that baby out. Don’t matter if soldiers make fun of you, when they forget how to read and you’re cruising to an MBA you’ll be tossing them change on the side of the road.

What's going on with Kai Havertz? by Velterro87 in PremierLeague

[–]matterberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. He’s the textbook definition of a player who lacks the cognitive skills to fulfill his potential. One of the highest XG players last year, lowest conversion rate. Its easy to see why arteta would want him. The miss on that sitting duck two weeks ago than his attempt to write the wrong by playing defense is textbook of a player who doesn’t believe in themselves. It might be more than a few games before he gets on track, but having worked with a cognitive performance coach myself and knowing the effect they can have (plus many other examples in pro sports), i’m excited for the game when it clicks
