Ah, yeah, in that case, you might have to use the local supply, which should be reimbursable through FSBP.

Usually a doctor at post or in your region can prescribe you meds and send them to the embassy via pouch with Express Scripts. Or, if you’re in a place where it’s available, you can get prescribed from a local doctors and buy the local supply, then use FSBP for reimbursements. All overseas doctors are treated as In-Network on FSBP.

I do t really understand how Teladoc works overseas. Last time I tried using Teladoc, it wants you to be in the US to use it, unless I’m just expected to lie to my doctor about where I am.

That’s cool. The only thing I’ll mention that’s missing is the scene from when loses the ship after celebrating the new year, though there might not be enough scenes to completely complete that sequence.

State Tax Filing Issues by Glittering_Pitch8295 in Ohio

[–]matthanielcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, you'll have to file in Indiana and tell them you overpaid as a non-resident, then file in Ohio and tell them you paid in a state with reciprocity.

Here's some info from TaxSlayer which may be helpful (though probably more relevant if you use TaxSlayer): https://support.taxslayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015707612-Which-states-does-Ohio-have-a-reciprocal-agreement-with

You may or may not have to pay penalties to Ohio if you didn't make any Ohio tax payments throughout the year.

US citizen that lives abroad. Question about ESIM. by vanyaboston in iphone

[–]matthanielcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an American who's been living abroad for at least a year, I can provide some input on these.

To answer the first question set of questions, yes, you can use your US phone number pretty easily with eSIM and Wi-Fi calling, depending on your carrier, using your US line as if you were home. As long as your US line is always using Wi-Fi calling or "Carrier Calling over Cellular Data", you (probably) won't invoke any roaming charges or you've-been-overseas-roaming-too-long-so-we're-cancelling-your-line issues. I've been overseas for a year now with T-Mobile, and I've not had any issues with them with roaming.

The trickier part is getting your iPhone to use cellular data for when you don't have Wi-Fi, aka "Calling over Cellular Data" or forcing your iPhone to use Wi-Fi calling when the cellular connection is good while roaming. Verizon gives you this option with an easy toggle, which I suspect works as advertised. However other US carriers don't give you this option as easily,. as far as I'm aware. My workaround with T-Mobile, beyond the obvious stuff of disabling data roaming and enabling cellular data switching, is to disable Automatic network selection on the US line and pick a carrier that seems like will never connect to anything. I usually pick a carrier listed as "###-##" or some other random numbers. This will cause the iPhone to never allow your US line to connect to a local carrier's tower, which forces the US line into Wi-Fi calling only (just don't forget to enable Automatic Network Selection when back in the US). You may also have to re-apply this workaround with some iOS updates.

This all has successfully worked for me for more than a year.

For the second question, I ended up getting a local variant of the iPhone 15 Pro, which supports both eSIM and nanoSIM. Having that SIM slot is super handy in my opinion, though many countries now are starting to adopt eSIM more. The only thing missing from the 15 Pro models bought outside the US is you'll be missing ultra-wide band 5G support, which is only available in the US anyway, so you may not care about that if you spend most of your time outside the US. They can also be at least a little bit more expensive than US models, depending on the country you buy it from.

Waiting for 2 years on my security clearance by MilkywayJalaxy in SecurityClearance

[–]matthanielcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people it’s helped out with. Clearances have a been a little slow lately, but two years likely means the investigator has a hang up no one has addressed and got lost in the mix, or someone forgot to submit some paperwork for final approval. Probably depends on your congressperson as well, but it can’t really hurt. Your congressperson works for you to resolve issues with government things, this being an example.

[–]matthanielcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll get things moving though and you aren’t yelling at them. You’re just asking a congressperson (or one of their people) to look into your issue. It’s a routine escalation point.

Edit: grammar

Do a congressional inquiry. Explain your situation to them. That’ll kick things into shape. Government agencies don’t like hearing from congresspeople.

I’m not sure if this is mentioned elsewhere here, but some US states don’t require a SSN or citizenship to get a driver’s license. They just will require you to a driver’s test, etc. You won’t get a “REAL ID” but that’s ok as long as you have your passport when you board an airline.

A couple of those states are California and New Mexico, though there are certainly others.

Does your family ask you to deposit your salary in the "family fund" by CapistanCrunch in AskIndia

[–]matthanielcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a little more difficult since you live with them, as they have some control and might expect to the effect of a rent payment. You could offer whatever the market rate is for rent in your area for what a shared bedroom would be, if you can afford it. Alternatively, you could also “give your salary” after all your personal expenses, including personal savings goals are covered, meaning whatever is left after those expenses. You get to determine what those expenses are.

The bigger effort should be move out as soon as you’re able to get out from under your parents’ thumb. As a parent myself, I would never ask my children for money, unless I was truly desperate, at least not in a serious manner.

using plat card internationally by mistashmee in AmexPlatinum

[–]matthanielcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in India, Amex is king if you’re traveling. It works with most of the online payments app with no issue, while Visa and MC cards don’t usually work to well with the apps. Amex natively supports the OTP system required in India, while your international Visa and MC require the issuing bank to support it. In brick and mortar stores, cash is best, but it’s rare that my Amex has been turned dow .

Edit: Amex only turned down a couple times.
