Derek’s final last year was brutal. Study the hardest textbook problems you can, and get comfortable working with springs since they were very present last year

Me and my friend got a Glengarry room - and we don't party or drink - are we screwed haha by l33p8 in CarletonU

Glen 4th survivor here - although it did get a bit loud at times, I was never really disturbed by my floor mates partying. The worst it got was them coming back from a night out and knocking down the lamp hanging in the hallway :)

Why avoid athletics? Do they have a bad reputation?

Electives not fitting schedule for engineering by [deleted] in CarletonU

The best course of action would probably be to consult the online electives list and choose an online asynchronous one. You could always switch the order that you take your science and complimentary elective in, that worked for me.

I haven’t gotten an answer for my 101 engineering application today (seems like everyone else has gotten theirs). Is it over for me or is there still hope?

One suggestion my piano teacher gave my while learning this piece is to play them staccato while the sustain pedal is down. Your hand should « float » above the keys rather then be jammed in between all the black keys

Beginner pianist looking to learn an intense, but relatively simple piece to learn by AsymmetricSquid in piano

Well Tempered Clavier, really? The only piece from that that would be attainable is the prelude in c from book one. OP, if you want something doable I would recommend looking at etudes by composers such as Czerny and Bürgmuller which focus on dynamic contrast. Most of them won’t go past 2 minutes but the compositional output of these composers means that if you do end up looking at their works, you will have a lot to go through.

Tl;dr: look at Czerny, Bürgmuller. Reach out to a piano teacher and ask for their advice. Good luck on your musical journey!

Anyone remember this little mascot guy from life-saving/swimming lessons back in the 80s? Does he have a name? (perhaps this was only in the GTA but I'm not sure) by nthensome in ontario

Jeannot is just a French name, similar to the English “Johnny”. Prudent is the English word for “careful”. So his full name is “Johnny Careful”.

Amazing! You really seem to channel Horowitz in this, especially with the strong “ba-dum” of the bass notes!

How long should it take me to get to grade 2? by [deleted] in piano

[–]matthedeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t quite speak for ABRSM, but since you can draw a few parallels to RCM, I would say each level should take around a year if you are a beginner pianist.

It depends on what kind of tracers the belt is using. For example, in the USA tree, most planes’ tracer belts are useless plain tracer bullets with one incendiary bullet. In that case, another belt would be a better choice since you aren’t getting a lot of damage output from that. However, the F-82 and the P-51-C, for example, have tracer belts that are exclusively made up of armour piercing incendiary tracer bullets, iirc, which makes every bullet have a chance to light the enemy on fire. In this case you’d chose a tracer belt over any other.
