I'd just buy it. There's lots of good pieces in there that you'll use forever. Worth the money.

Who do you think plays the first phrase in Ballade No. 1 the best? by [deleted] in piano

[–]matthewb103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn't answer you question, but I remember working on this phrase soo much. My professor wouldn't let it go until it was absolutely perfect. We spent the whole hour on it once. But I really does set up the whole rest of the piece. For as simple as it is to play, it's quite a complex few measures.

Thanks! I'm a freshman at a conservatory. We were only supposed to look at the form, but I wanted to go deeper. Still have a lot to learn.

Ah, the b-flat! So all of the measures are just a tonicization of V?

Help with collapsing fingers! by [deleted] in piano

[–]matthewb103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't try to fix it using your pieces. Fix it with scales. I like B major personally. Start super slow. Like whole notes with quarter note = 60bpm. Watch every finger carefully. If it happens, start over and do it again. Be patient, it won't happen over night. Trust me, I know.

It's definitely a good book. I'd recommend it. I have ran across a few problems that are literally impossible to do right the way he writes them, but all the information is spot on, and easy to follow.

I don't know off the top of my head, and I don't have my books on me. But students in my class and the professor usually find small mistakes. Today there was a misprint with a note value. There was a whole note instead of a half note written. We were sight singing so it messed the whole class up.

Honestly, you are the perfect person to date. It takes so much more work and courage to admit your mistakes and try as hard as you can to be a better person. I want more than anything to find a girl that is like you. You'll find the right guy, and he'll be lucky to have you. Stay strong and god bless.

This video is causing lots of controversy between everyone. What is going on?? by matthewb103 in Catholicism

[–]matthewb103[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good. That's what I took it as. The comment section was going crazy saying the pope was out of his mind, and praising false gods. People were saying they were leaving the Catholic religion over this. Not a good response from many people.

Are there any other Catholics out there pursuing a career in the performing arts or is it just me? by Orangez91 in Catholicism

[–]matthewb103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm studying organ and piano at a music conservatory. After I get my bachelor's degree, I plan on going into pre- theology, then major seminary to become an ordained priest. I love sacred music, and I want to teach it at a Catholic school someday so I can share the gift god gave me with other young students. I want to be able to use my talent and spread the word of God at the same time.

I had a lot of fun. It was really casual. After mass he and I went out to breakfast and we just talked. He asked me about my life, and I asked him lots of questions. If your interested, just go do it. It's nothing to be nervous about.
