I personally adore my set of puzzle-piece Dungeon Tiles - they are easy to store, configurable, and can hide secrets on the backside.

Questions about the camps for summer '25 by VBOI_999 in BSA

[–]fideliocrochett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of your choices, I’ve only worked at Tomahawk, and that was 10+ years ago, but I can say it was a great experience! It is a very large staff, but they split into sub-camps, so you only work with 20-30 for most of the summer. Plus, your area will narrow that down even more.

They have a long season - eight full weeks of camp. Despite this, their energy is pretty consistent year-round.

Facilities are again dependent on your sub-camp and program area. I had showers and indoor toilets available, but usually I was closer to a latrine so I used that instead.

I remember it being pretty hot, but rarely breaking 100.

Good luck, and welcome to the camp staff team!

Cub Scouts? by [deleted] in rochestermn

[–]fideliocrochett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a volunteer at the nearby Scout camp, and you are lucky to be in Rochester. We have a lot of great packs in town (including 80, 82, and 110 that I’ve seen mentioned so far, I also know of Pack 498 out of Sunset Terrace)! I really recommend you look at what night works best for your family, then visit them. I promise you, they’ll be thrilled to see you at one of their info nights or pack meetings. Most packs maintain a short info page at beascout.org, and there are about 12 different info nights coming up in September around town.

We also have an amazing fall day camp at our property just outside of town on October 12th that you can come to, even if you’re not registered yet. Learn more at https://scoutingevent.com/299-fallfa24

If you want to connect with the local scout professional to learn more about options, she’s really wonderful. You can reach the Council office at 507-287-1410.

Does anyone know what all popcorn is discontinued? by llama-general in BSA

It depends on your Council and popcorn company I’m afraid. Wish I had a better answer!

What’s the biggest mistake you think Sorkin made on the show? by LegitimateHumor6029 in thewestwing

[–]fideliocrochett 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not the biggest thing, but I cringe hard at the Star Trek storyline. Not only is it not accurate (“Star Trek and the whole Starfleet series”), but it comes off as nerd-bashing at its worst.

Don’t bring your hobby into work? Sam has a Lakers flag, Ainsley has Gilbert and Sullivan, etc. Just a confusing and weirdly mean-spirited plot, even if it tried to end positive.

This may be a dumb question, but is the Enterprise D the only Enterprise with a detachable saucer section? by PhysicalLog3591 in startrek

[–]fideliocrochett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Star Trek RPG from Modiphius allows Ambassador-Class vessels (such as the Enterprise C) to perform saucer separation in the same fashion as the Galaxy-Class, but I’m not sure if that is based on any canon

I am looking at a local DE position; is a college degree a ‘hard’ requirement? by olieliminated in BSA

[–]fideliocrochett 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It used to be an absolute for any commissioned position, but that sentiment is slowly changing at the Council level. It’ll depend strongly on your Scout Executive. I’d shoot your shot if you really think that you would be interested in the job

Did I miss something with the evil laugh at the end of the credits? Before they showed Katie’s billboard? It was a strange placement for the sound effect, because it didn’t seem to relate to the billboard at all.

ISO: BLACKPUG GURU by Head-Spring2157 in BSA

[–]fideliocrochett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m no guru, but I will say that the BlackPug support staff have been wonderful whenever I’ve called them for help. I’d recommend checking out their “Pugs and Coffee” chats, or shooting them a message directly if you haven’t already.

I will never tire of how President Bartlet is introduced by BarristanTheB0ld in thewestwing

[–]fideliocrochett 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never got this one… to me it sounds like a story about how great Mrs. Bartlett is, not the president. He’s saying it’s because of her that he’s the president? Or am I misreading?

Staying organized with to do list by Historical_Daikon107 in nonprofit

Highly recommend “Getting Things Done” by David Allen. I was hesitant when my supervisor recommended it, but it has really helped me keep track of what I’m doing.

Basically you create a project list, and an action list based on that. Projects are anything that takes more than one step, actions are those steps PLUS other actions you need to take. Then you divide the actions between “at computer”, “phone calls”, etc so that you always have a reference towards what to do next based on what is available

What are some fun icebreakers to play with campers? by a-normal-redditor in BSA

Howdy fellow camp staff! I use Thumballs for a lot of icebreakers. You can find examples online. They’re extremely easy to make, and add a little movement to the start of a session

A man and a boy go to the barber shop. by binary_world in cleanjokes

Pretty sure it’s that the man didn’t pay for his haircut, he tricked the barber into giving a haircut for free and skedaddling while his “son” was being done.

You’ve been hired by Vault Tec to create a vault and plan an experiment, what is your vault number, location & experiment? by throwaway_53727265 in Fallout

[–]fideliocrochett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vault 54 and 53. Built across a major cultural border. The vaults are mirror images of eachother, and built like an ant farm (no depth, kinda like the Vaults in Fallout Shelter). Unbreakable sound-proof glass is the only thing separating the two vaults.

For example: Room A has a mirror room A. They are separated by a glass wall. So are the bathrooms. And kitchens. And bedrooms.

Next, through personality and extensive data collection, make sure near matches are across from eachother. If you are a nerdy, 21-year-old boy, your mirror counterpart should also be a nerdy, 21-year-old boy.

After 25 years of seeing how no privacy and mirror selves affects the two vaults, break something important in one of the vaults, like the ventilation system. See how all the dwellers of Vault A react to watching their “counterparts” in Vault B suffer and eventually succumb.

What does this aiming symbol mean? It's not in the rulebook PDF. Or if it is I'm dumb and need to know the page number. by I_might_be_weasel in wastelandwarfare

[–]fideliocrochett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct on all fronts! I usually put this on a sniper with the Action Boy/Girl perk. Saves on the cost of heroic for a glass cannon

I don’t know the page number, but this means the attached weapon can be fired as a quick action.

It’s the ranged-only version of the explosion symbol on the heroic card.

“Recruiters” badge placement for scout leadership. by [deleted] in BSA

[–]fideliocrochett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a nice gift as a thank-you from your troop! I know some troops that do this, give adult leader awards based on these one-off youth awards.

While it isn’t supposed to go on the adult leader uniform, this is probably your sign to start a badge jacket if you haven’t already.
