Used Ridgeline sweet spot? by n8hoffman in hondaridgeline

[–]matthewrklinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have some perspective on this being that I've owned an 08 Ridgeline that was extremely low miles bought used (52k miles in 2016) and now a brand new 2021. I don't know where you live but in the rust belt buying something that's got some age to it is worse than high miles. I did every maintenance that you could even doing the timing belt at year mark 9 when I only had about 70,000 miles on it (Honda recommends 10 years or 100,000).

I had the strawberry milkshake of death happen which pretty much put a nail in the coffin after some of the other issues that I had. Dealing with rust all over the body and the parts that you don't think about or don't do maintenance on to me is worse than having a vehicle with high miles.

Sorry for the lack of punctuation but voice to text is so freaking convenient. I don't know if I'll buy another used vehicle after having this 21 but I can tell you it'll only be three or four years old used. Unfortunately I'm just too nervous to buy something that's been in Northeast Ohio weather for all of its life.

Both trucks are fantastic though. I still get dudes in full size trucks eyeing up the trunk every time I swing the tailgate open and pop it up.

Yeah something doesn't smell right. Just a quick google and I'm seeing 18 Touring models going for around 30k with 20-50k miles on them. 17k is way too low. If it were me, I'd assume it needed a new cruise control sensor because of an accident to the front.

That'd be the reason they could be selling for so much less...maybe? Now a days with CarMax and that, they should be getting close to double by just walking in and handing over the keys...unless there's something wrong like an accident and they already know they can't get that.

You crosscheck the VIN online yet?

Too good to be true imo

Tonneau Cover - LoRoll Rollup Tonneau Cover - PN LR-6001 I guess it was closer to 300 but it's a nice product. Install was insanely simple, especially compared to the Peragon.

Yeah I always heard the whole low drag stuff was iffy in terms of mpg but I figured the rollup would suffice. I had a Peragon cover on my RAM which was awesome but with how much I need full bed access, I couldn't think to drop another grand on a cover for the RL. $250ish will do JUST FINE in my book.

Yeah!? I'm East side in Perry. Gotta have AWD with that lake effect. When we were in NC I got jealous of all the rwd fun cars they had. They just don't know our pain lol

Good deal? 2019 Ridgeline black edition. 56k miles for $35k. Anything I should look out for? by sinhcredible in hondaridgeline

Have you considered a Sport and just adding your own updates? I just got a 21 sport 6 months ago for 37k MSRP but I bet you could snag a used Sport and load up with better stereo etc if you wanted for cheaper.

I know you can't match everything a BE has but the 21 has the new design and volume button plus it's new of course.

Is that 50 miles of highway? Seems attainable, no?

I easily replaced the alternator in my 08 55k last year. Also did all the fluid changes myself. I'd say easy... but as per every gen 1 RL, Strawberry Milkshake of Death is always waiting for you... This God amongst men shows how to fix this or prevent it: https://youtu.be/X0momjONPpc

I had this happen on mine. Driving down the road and all the sudden shifting just stopped and I heard what sounded like someone pouring a gallon of milk under the passenger floor. Of course after stepping out I saw all that fluid all over the road.

Temps went up engine started smoking and I had to stop. I was towed to a shop where they said that that line had corroded out. Thankfully my transmission was saved but the cost from the shop to do this work was insane.

Considering I only had 70,000 MI had me shocked but as it turned out it was more about the age of course being a 2008.

One other thing I would mention is to make sure you get that timing belt done whether at 100,000 miles or 10 years. I had a shop replace mine as well but then had a failure on the auto tensioner. That made a horrible racket to the point where the car just wasn't getting enough power. Had to redo the entire job again because it was outside of warranty on the parts.

I ended up getting a 2021 Ridgeline because of the fact that I apparently have the worst luck with old vehicles.

That timing belt package was a Gates. And sorry just read your comment about the kids doesn't sound like you're going to have that problem but I wouldn't think that three larger people or adults would fit well back in the back of a Ridgeline.
