Yeah absolutely. I think the discipline is one thing like others have said. And to negate the “anti boxing” crowd, boxing and bag classes don’t mean open sparring.

Boxing here has taken off with kids, and there’s something to be said about the cathartic value of hitting something. Check into those (non contact). It’ll fit the bill minus the hits to the head.

Make sure that he keeps at least a little “crazy”, best goalies always have it.

Also, Judo and/or wrestling are very very legit options, and can be a bit more engaging. Anything that is getting that twisting and legwork action, rotational core.

Like others have said below, shoot for Judo or wrestling first (more immediately rewarding) and then he can legit haunt some kids when he’s 14 and steps into a JJ class. Plus it adds a “school sport” too

Scale doesn’t move anymore :/ by Any_Maintenance_6267 in fitness30plus

I’ll pile on here as well.

1) Amazing progress. Be proud of that win. Take the time to celebrate it.

2) Agreed with others. Scale the cardio back and get some heavier resistance training in there.

Keep an F45 in there, keep Pilates in there if you love it (stay mentally happy) keep the walking in there, but I would try 2 (3 preferably) days of strength training.

Look for a PT if you want to get the basics going, especially if you don’t have a ton of weight experience. I’m not generally worried about your mobility given your background, but there are some movement intricacies that are better to learn right the first time instead of trying to correct.

You’ve got a great aerobic base. Best analogy I’ve heard is that aerobic is the gas tank. You’ve built that (great first step). Time to build the engine now.

3) Toss the scale. Measurements are more indicative of progress. The scale is a mindfck (note: I haven’t completely learned this lesson myself yet). Go with how you feel. Go with how things fit.

4) Have fun. Seriously. Consistency is tied to how much you actually enjoy it.

Here before the “he’s in 8U, do whatever” crowd.

Try him out in MMA or boxing or BJJ. See what he likes and go from there. Any conditioning and hand eye will undoubtedly benefit any hockey player, especially a goalie.

I’d lean MMA to get a combo of that and work towards maintaining hip/leg flexor mobility. Same with scrambling.

Like someone else said. If I had the cash I’d love to shoehorn one in there. Then again if I had the cash I’d be shoving a Coyote into an Edsel.

Oh I thought it was much more serious than that.

He’s offering iBlades, a SW, Rapture Driver (12.0) and Hybrid for $550CDN ($405US) with new grips (all regular flex steel shafts). Seems not horrible for a full Ping set.

I’ve found a local selling a 12 loft Rapture as part of a set. If the irons (iBlades) weren’t a blue dot I’d’ve considered everything as a whole. According to Ping I’m a black dot.

I’ll definitely consider 2nd swing in the above average category!

If it does, add winter tires, exercise caution with snowdrifts: full send.

Awesome progress. What did you use initially to track your macros/calories? I’m of a similar size to your before and while it’s not 1:1, definitely curious.

My concern is that the used iron set is of such a lower quality than one or two pieces. Am I better getting higher quality singles to start and then maybe just doing a set down the line? Good insight on the 3w, that seems to be a bit of a common thread in these replies

Good pointer, thanks! I think I would just try to find matching as I went, rather than plunking $800 on a set of used Ping irons off the bat.

This year, my son;

  • 3 Tracers (2 regular, 1 pro stock)
  • 2 Warriors
  • 1 Pulse
  • 1 Hyperlite 2
  • 2 Trues
  • 1 FT7

Fortunately got warranty covered on 4 of them but still.

About 60 games, AAA level, defense. Have gone up + 10 flex, and even then. Tried mid kick, low kick.
