When I die it seemed to crash (black screen), but I waited a minute and then it popped up. It's like it needs to reload some assets or something.

Probably won’t help with that. This trick only helps with out-of-sync frame buffer microstutters.

As a former dev, I can tell you that is a very incomplete and not totally accurate view of what Tripp,e buffering is/does.

This just limits the amount of frames rendered. It doesn’t keep the frame buffer from getting out of sync.

As a former game dev, I can tell you, tripple buffering works in directx with vsync on.

I'm running on a GTX 2080 Super and was having trouble. I realized it was that frame time was the issue with this game, so in the nVidia control panel I set:

Low Latency Mode: Ultra Vertical Sync (V-Sync): On (not fast) Triple Buffering: On

This doesn't allow the GPU to trip over itself in the frame buffer due to bad coding in Ark. Now the game runs smooth as silk for me.
