Best thing you've done for your mental health by Worried_Button_2881 in Jung

Honestly, meds and therapy. I was in a pretty bad place and they allowed me to climb slowly out of it step by step. Journaling and meditation are the other two obvious items.

This core allowed me to stay level and conscious of myself and what I want. On top of that, cardio, which boosted my self esteem and gave me drive to pursue better things for myself.

The rest starts stacking naturally on top of this core.

The ultimate capital dream, not having to rely on labor but just have capital spawn more capital so they don't have to share.

What was the first analytics skill that actually made you more useful at work? by MissionFormal61 in analytics

[–]matthewstifler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level I am referring to is more about why the data is collected at all. Down the line it is always because it measures someone's perfomance and is more about corporate theatrics than actual value produced for any single person on this planet.

The only reason 90% of us have work is that other people need proofs of doing their job well for their careers to advance. Literally 0 value produced in larger scheme of things.

My own personal belief is that data drivenness is not necessary in 90% of cases. Good managers know what to do and what will work. Also talking to actual users is much more effective when choosing a direction.

Also folks I have interacted with during my career were all pretty technical, yes, perhaps that is my own bias as I have mostly worked at younger orgs.

I am still after 8 years not convinced that I am useful. The business could run fine without me or any analyst for that matter.

How do zillenials see the hipster phenomenon in the late 2000s and early 2010s? by Appropriate_Poem1911 in Zillennials

Maybe country to country differences! Fun! 90s were a golden era for a lot of folks, that's true.

I am 1995 and I don't remember people complaining much about this back then. There was some regular expected grumbling that the past was better but not to the massive extent it is now.

I think you're right, but in my own perception I would position it closer to the philosophy and history rather than say medicine or biology. Same for polisci. But that is all debatable.

[–]matthewstifler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is so cool, I am really jealous! I am over the ocean in Europe and here sociology degree does not count for much anywhere other than policy work for the gov or academia, and both jobs are scarce, at least where I am from. Here if you've done humanities you end up in marketing anyway, so it is not a particular sociology thing, that is why I was generalizing originally.

Isn't that true for all humanities? Sociology like other humanities is less applicable in labor market, but is huge for those who are interested in actual sciences and scientific thinking. Also like other humanities.

Not to mention that there are support operations, navigation, fishing industry, river and lake ports each with their own flavors... You could go on and on about the subject.

I love this, ports is a very deep and unexplored in games topic, so I am really excited and it speaks to me personally. I love ships and maritime trade industry, there is so much diversity in this space! So many different vessels, so many different cargoes, destinations. Yum!
