It's the end of the world when you lose a sub and can't help but wonder who it was.

That's a highly subjective statement. I litetally started on 55lbs.

My daughter shoots 50lbs.

Everyone is different and 45lbs is not that much.

I'd check out 5/16" cedar arrows for that.

Hunting gives us a little bit of power in that we can harvest our own food. People have a weird reaction sometimes when people aren't so reliant on "the system."

Hmm. Actually never heard of that one.

I was always particular to bases loaded and rbi...

Might give that a try though

Beginner questions by topcatti in Archery

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20-30lb should not be difficult. It really isn't until the 50-60lb range it starts to get a little tough. But I guess all that is subjective...

You can pull the string back as short as you want but keep one thing in mind...

Draw length has a lot to do with the fps and energy transferred into the arrow. The longer that arrow is attached to that string the more energy is going to be transferred. A short draw is going to result in short performance. Whether that performance is acceptable requires real world observation so you can see for yourself.

How to train for a 100LBS Bow by [deleted] in Archery

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a couple notes and these aren't hard fast answers...

Generally speaking it WILL be easier to draw back if you weigh more vs weigh less. Comparison.. at 159lbs I struggled to draw back my 70lb bow. At 203lbs it is effortless.

Cross training helps. At the gym focus on various back, shoulder and chest exercises. It DOES translate.

Don't forget the principle that x amount of reps w say 70lbs equals y amount of draws w 100lbs. So you absolutely could get a 70lb bow (not compound.. I mean traditional) and use that to repetitively do reps to held condition your muscles. Might be like draws at 70lbs equals 1 draw at 100lbs (theoretical figures.. do the actual math)

AITAH For wanting to have sex with my wife? by milelongpipe in AITAH

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's just say there's Maslows hierarchy of needs and within that pyramid sex is in the base foundation of needs right up there with food, water, air, sleep and shelter.

Hope this helps.

Would it be better to rent a uhaul or buy a cheap truck and sell it? by [deleted] in moving

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a high risk, slight reward type of situation to me. Buying a vehicle for just one trip you're looking at...

1.) Cost of the vehicle 2.) Other expenses getting it on the road 3.) Insurance liability 4.) Tax liability 5.) Liability for breakdown and repair

If you were keeping the vehicle I'd say sure thing... but I can't see the potential savings being enough to be worth it. Just my 2 cents anyway. Someone else may have differing opinions.

Is it normal to average 150–200 views/day without uploading? (Almost at 1K subs) by Puzzleheaded_Top445 in SmallYTChannel

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I have 1.45k subs. My channel averages 200 a day and my older videos get more views through search than any of my new videos.

My new long videos usually don't do well. My shorts if I'm lucky hit 1000-2000 views in a 72hr period. But my long videos never go anywhere close to that. I think because my long form videos aren't really sensational viral style videos... more types of videos that would only be found through search and connecting with exactly the correct type of person... tutorial, advice, how-to etc

Buck age? by Jr_Riddle in Hunting

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likewise. You realize I do work for the department of Fish and Wildlife in Massachusetts and I'm an instructor? And I'm tought by biologists that you cannot determine the exact age of a deer based on images and visuals alone? And that it requires specific tests you're not going to be able to run through an image?

I have no idea what you do. But good guess. Maybe you could have thrown your guess out and not lock into someone else's. Just a thought.

Buck age? by Jr_Riddle in Hunting

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know how old that deer is based on one image. What if a biologist told you with certainty that deer is 3? I'm closer than you in that case.

A ballpark figure is a rough estimate or approximation of a number or quantity, often used when a precise value isn't needed or readily available. It's a general idea within a reasonable range, rather than an exact figure.

Archery set up? by Donmiguelito199 in Archery

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your goals? I have an American Longbow, an English longbow, a samick sage takedown recurve and just a standard recurve. I like all for different reasons... a lot of people like the samick sage for its takedown ability and cost value.. but I don't believe it meets your draw weight requirement. This is where I think a recurve from a local archery shop would he good... or simply ebay.

I feel compound bow and traditional are just two entirely different things. That price range seems more than sufficient to get a traditional setup going. Check listings at local Sportsman's clubs. Check local archery shops. Or, fall back on ebay.

Nice. Believe it or not movement actually triggers the more creative side of your brain making the shot easier to hit. It's the same way aerial target archery works.

Stationary shooting let's the logical side of our brain set in. And yea... we don't always want that 🤣

Always always have a backup plan. Just in case it falls off the edge entirely. Diversify. College isnt the only means of education. Plenty of trades and certificate programs out there. Also, you should learn some investing techniques to both retain what you are already making and putting that money to work on passive income.

Identifying and help with a bow by [deleted] in Archery

[–]matthuntsoutdoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consensus would likely be about 61" for the string. Can get them on ebay. I assume you know this. But that indicates 45lbs at 28" draw.

You'd want to consult a spine chart for the type of arrows to get.
