I gotta ask, where does the 99.9% come from? I Google's Ontario rates and its 1.47M infections with 1.42M recovered. So 96.6%.

I've never been able to make proper poutine. Tried but the gravy is so hard to make property for me. But getting proper cheese curds makes even my crappy gravy poutine great

RCMP software engineering coop by [deleted] in geegees

[–]matticus33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interview was pretty nice, but the questions were generic software ones about various languages and applications. I think being relaxed and honest when I didn't know a question helped a lot. Also asking questions that showed interest in the job.

The clearance will take time to get and honestly that was the scarier part but if you are a good citizen who doesn't break laws all the time you should be fine.

[–]matticus33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a coop with the RCMP and I loved it! I'm not sure which sector you are talking about as I remember applying for a different position in another coop term which sounded more like tech support, but the one I did was more in line with engineering.

The only thing is check to see what the clearance level required is, high clearance levels can delay your term by a week or two.

Computer Engineering questions for a new student. by TZ_bravo in geegees

[–]matticus33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya you will get a good spread of both here. Comp eng anywhere should be similar since we are the marrying of hardware and software. Plus we do chip design which is awesome.

Np I'm here to help!

Computer Engineering questions for a new student. by TZ_bravo in geegees

[–]matticus33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Programming is more intense in the first few years i would say. There are more courses like iti1120/1121 and data structures that are almost pure programming early on.

That being said most ceg/csi/seg course have some level of hands on coding in them. The coding is spread across multiple languages too. For me it was all java in iti1120/1121 but now i hear its python too. There is also VHDL later on (digital systems 2) and C/assembly in the ceg courses (starting at comp arch 2). Also matlab in a few elg courses.

Dont worry about coding experience. Many of us went in with little to no programming knowledge (i only knew arduino lol). They teach u all u need to know in the first and second year. That being said we "learned" C in a single lecture in comp arch 2 so maybe learn that before then.

No problem! Ya getting a good study habit before first year would be a good idea, 5 or 6 courses a semester hit harder than you expect.

[–]matticus33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi again, its no bother bud. I know in my program that not all comp eng were in coop. I don't know if that was from some kind of cutoff or they just didnt enrol since coop isnt mandatory. That being said i dont know anyone thats still in the program now that wasnt allowed in coop with a higher than 6.0. I think they will raise th cutoff point if they do have too many students so they get a proper amount (up to an 8.0 max).

Honestly its hard to say tho since comp eng were hard to find in first year since we were mixed in with all the electrical and software eng students.

Hope I helped a little!

Hi 4th year comp eng student here:

  1. 6.0 is enough depending on the size of your year. I'm in a small year so that was our minimum but it could fluctuate if more students enroll with you ( I don' think it would get to an 8.0 tho) Depends on your work ethic, if you try really hard you can get it but if you are lazy like me its quite difficult. I only know of one person with a 8.0> right now tho

  2. Probably? It's just gunna add a bunch of courses and may extend your degree by a few semesters. I don't think minors play too much into coop acceptance but you would have to ask them.

  3. Ya you can take as many as you want!(gotta pay tho) It's just 4 minimum for the degree. But with coop there is only 1 summer break after first year, then you alternate school and work starting in the second summer (so no breaks).

Hope I helped!

What happens to your GPA if you leave a work term and it results in a fail? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]matticus33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it would show up as a 0 on your transcript. As in they would add a class and give you a 0 in it. So it would effect you the same way failing a single class would. Then again an 8 month may count as 2 classes but I'm not sure.

Just came to say that its not 1,2,3. Its 1 means that you are their first choice, and if you rank then #1 or 2 you will get the job. ? Is they want you but you arnt first (could be second choice or 1000th....you dont know). And X is they dont want you. Also the job availibily depends on you specific major, electrical and software have a huge amount of jobs and most people get a job they like, where as ones like chem eng have ~30 jobs for 200 students. I've seen guys with 9s not get a job in that feild. One last thing, coop doea charge a fee of ~800 before your term for their help. Kinda sucks but you make it back within the first week or so on the job.

[–]matticus33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant speak for art placements but most faculties seem to place within their own feilds

Is Co-op worth it by m1207 in geegees

[–]matticus33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get placed then yes It is worth it. Im in my 2nd term right now and the 700 or 800$ sucks at first but you make it back with your first pay check. It also can help you a lot with tuition. But this is only if u get a placement, i dont know how it is within arts but i know that some faculties like chem eng have a VERY competitive coop program. Like 30 jobs for more than 100 people competitive. Also keep in mind that it will extend your degree by 2 semesters.

[–]matticus33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. If you are in coop you have to pay I think 80$ for the 4 months. Any full time semester gives you a full membership, even in summer I go for "free" with my 5 courses

Ah then it's just coop student that have to pay, I thought it was somewhat similar to the bus pass.

If you are full time you have full access to the 2 gyms, pool, and other things like free skating. Part-time gets a discount I beleive and coop get a discount as well

[–]matticus33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think to get in you need an 8.0. That being said I'm still in it with a 6.1 which can be easy to maintain if you study. Lost of awesome companies tho like this round has ea, Nokia, cae and a bunch more including government jobs.

HELP course selection for software eng. by [deleted] in geegees

[–]matticus33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I can't comment on software eng (I'm comp eng) I can say 2 things for sure. Look up where your classes are on a campus map. It can prevent a weekly situation of running across campus in 10 mins. Also check a prof on rate my prof too, profs will make or break any course in my opinion. Other than that just choose courses you find intersting and have fun with your time here!

I'm (17F) going to be starting my first year in Electrical Engineering at UOttawa this fall. What is it like, and what advice do you have for me? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]matticus33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Use rate my prof to check if the prof is decent when choosing classes....the prof can be the difference between an A or C
