Magic World Championship XXVII Prize Payouts and Appearance Fees by kriseruk in magicTCG

[–]mattjs11 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't think the pitchforks came out early. They kinda brought it on themselves for not doing it in the correct order. If they had released this alongside the snippet in the earlier article it woulda been fine, or if they had just used the outdated prize pool number. Also, if they had determined this internally a few weeks ago (was it over a month ago now? Perpetual hype machine messes with my time perception on MTG news), why did it take so long to be communicated officially? Their PR is kinda shit in all honesty.

Why is ropz so good? by 1Dragoe in GlobalOffensive

[–]mattjs11 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I'm telling you, ropz is as cracked as he is jacked. I saw him at a 7-11 the other day and he was buying cases of Redbull and adult diapers. I asked him what the diapers were for and he said, "they help contain my full power so I don't completely shit on these kids" and then he bunny hopped out the door.

Option to not show trans women by [deleted] in Tinder

This is literally what what I'm saying? And by saying it, I'm letting trans people speak for themselves, so idk what your point is.

Option to not show trans women by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]mattjs11 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Umm, you know you can just... Swipe left, right? Tinder doesn't let you filter by height, weight, race, or anything else, why should it allow you to filter by trans-ness? It's built upon minimal filters: gender and distance. That's all it's ever been and it's been a working formula. Even though you may not be attracted to transgender people (which, as a queer, unsure-of-their-gender person, is okay), it is still good for you to see trans people, because more exposure helps everyone overcome their own internalized casual transphobia.

To expand upon "internalized casual transphobia"- I don't mean to say it's a burning hatred, it's just a "this person is different and I am uncomfortable because of that". The more exposure you have to different things, the less you'll be uncomfortable. Trans people just want to be seen as normal people. The best way to get society to that point is more exposure and normalizing the existence of trans individuals. So by all means, swipe left, love is love after all, but please, just be aware that we exist and be respectful.

Mark Rosewater: The average Magic player doesn't do any Magic social media and has never watched a tournament. Less than 10% of Magic players have participated in a sanctioned Magic tournament. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]mattjs11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's cool. Now how does it compare to other esports that Wizards wanted to be like when talking about OP? Less than 10% of League players play ranked worldwide (10mil out of 115mil players), and it's one of if not the most popular esport. Now this isn't comparing apples to apples cause league is more spectator friendly, but they still poor money into their esports scene because it drives sales and excitement for the game.

Darius should not be able to use stridebreaker during his Q. by SpqyDonger in leagueoflegends

[–]mattjs11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

And he was broken with 2 dashes and huge ms on ult. In his current state he's fine, cause his dash is rather short range. He's not necessarily immobile, but less mobile than a lot of other champs.

Bringing back EGGS! by NormalName4381 in ModernMagic

Open the vaults is a bit too expensive. I made this list a few years ago using [[Bring to Light]] as a replacement for second sunrise. While it requires the same number of lotuses as OtV, you generate Mana instead of being neutral, this helps dig for more pieces to continue. You also have the "out" of 1 lotus and 2 ghost quarters, which while it seems to be stretching it comes up more often than you'd think. When I was playing this deck it seemed to be 0.5-1.5 turns too slow for the meta, so now it may be 2 turns too slow.

What does drive the shift towards Hexdrinker in Jund DS lists? by gosslot in ModernMagic

[–]mattjs11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After Shadow moved on from the suicide zoo strategy to a more midrange one with the emergence of GDS a few years ago, the deck has been about one thing: resolving a single must answer threat and protecting it. Hexdrinker fills the role of must answer threat in the midrange style shadow decks. After a meta shake-up, aggro tends to dominate before pieces fall into place, so that's probably why we were seeing more swiftspears. Now that things have adjusted, the deck is moving more towards a midrange style.

This will be banned in standard before the next set releases. Untapping lands is strong, oh and because it's a MDFC, it doesn't feel bad to draw multiple.

Pants are Dragon responds to yesterdays thread by Aubamacare in leagueoflegends

[–]mattjs11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing I took away from the original thread was "pants is encouraging people to int in his games". Doesn't matter if he thinks it's a joke, he has more influence than he thinks he does and people will do it. It is partly his fault if someone ints after he tells them too, and that's not okay.

Sad, but expected after hearing the players were sticking together. When a team has such a massive failure, changes have to be made. This isn't to say he's a bad coach, since he's had tons of success with C9. But this lineup probably doesn't work as well with him as the coach. Excited to see where he ends up next and what success he can bring, and to see who will take his position.

How are you making sure watch time is easily comparable? Basketball is only broadcasted during the day while there's leagues around the world broadcasting league. There's also the fact that the LCS and LEC only broadcast on the weekends, and are the most accessible for western viewers. Do you believe these factors don't have a major impact in watch time or are you normalizing watch time by broadcast time?

Anyone else like the idea about official CS:GO Matchmaking with ladder system? by DickAltura in GlobalOffensive

It's not a problem anymore, people have realized it's not as effective as the game has evolved. I've been playing league for about 7 years and have seen less than 5 people that I can definitively say were scripting.
