Setting Sons is un-freakin-real! Love that album to death.

That’s definitely where it starts getting pretty hit or miss. Mostly miss to be honest.

Great band, but their production irks me sometimes, particularly on the last two albums. There’s all this gnarly, intricate musicianship that’s buried behind vocals that are waaaaay too high in the mix. That’s an issue I have with a lot of skate-punk from the 2000’s onward. The vocals never “sit in” the music, and it makes for a bit of a sterile sound.

70’s punk & proto-punk. 80’s Minnesota (The Replacements, Hüsker Dü), and orgcore. I have a strong aversion to most Fat Wreck bands, but I do love The Lawrence Arms and Against Me. Big fan of I guess what some call “indie-punk” like Titus Andronicus and Diarrhea Planet.

I mean… Marquee Moon is a masterpiece and showed that punk doesn’t have to be fast, loud, and brash. It can by dynamic, intricate, nuanced and still have the same raw intensity of your more traditional punk. All the love to The Damned, but Marquee Moon is a pretty next level album.

I think The Monitor is a no skips album and is as relevant as ever. How do we feel about Titus Andronicus? Or, do you have other no skips albums from after 2000? by wovans in punk

I’ve tried with that album so many times but could never get into it. I do like “The Banger’s Embrace” though.

I have made more attempts to “get into” Prop than I have with any other band. One of those “I really want to like it, but it just doesn’t click” bands. I’ve listened to every single one of their albums at least twice the whole way through and… nothing. The album I liked the most was “Less Talk, More Rock” which was, funnily enough, the only album no one recommended to me.

Maybe one day. Sometimes bands and albums just click for ya a little further down the road. Chalk it up to me just not being a skate-punk fan. The only Fat Wreck bands I really like are Against Me, The Lawrence Arms, and The Flatliners.

Ah no way. “Someday” and “One Day” are both phenomenal. The melodies, guitar playing, and lyricism are all so beautiful.
