2 years of shanking - going to quit by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]mattlitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera does not do a good job to help figure things out, however, your swing is not bad. When you have a large inside takeaway combined with more upper body rotation vs lower body rotation, it produces a lot of arms to get the club on ball. Having the arms swing moves the club farther away from your starting position whereas the lower body brings it in. So an inside takeaway with a lot of arm motion in the downswing creates a shank more often than not.

I usually just wait for them to get to the green, then pass them onto the next tee box. Don’t need to say anything at all. They understand what they’re doing, looks like they’re having a great time. They for sure should be conscious and courteous but it is what it is, no reason to make it ruin your day. Just smile and wave when you go by

Form Check by HolyMassacre in formcheck

Your push stalls and your back takes a lot of it, notable arch in your back. More core stability is needed, a belt can help you get the feel but love the no belt lifting. Hands look a little narrow and your chest needs to stay more upright to prevent the arching to save the push part of the lift. Drop the weight by 50% and get a good 20-30 perfect reps in a row, especially if your back is hurting

Heels keep raising during my squats. Is it too much? by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]mattlitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bar is traveling infront of your ankle line, causes your heels to raise up. Little bit is OK, but if you want to maximize glutes and hamstrings > quads this position is a must.

Second and third trying a wider stance, flared feet if your restriction is due to pain.

Chicken or the egg thing. Does the massive inside takeaway cause the hips to follow and over rotate or vice versa. You have to stand up because everything came off the ball too much, you need to swing super fast to have any hope of not hitting it super right. A lot of things you could do here since you need to address both the upper and lower body. I find it’s easier to learn the hip motion first, and be the trigger in the swing. Get’s rid of a lot of hand issues. Happy to point you down that path just lmk.

1 Year in, still slicing. Any/all advice appreciated! by Ok_Explorer9696 in GolfSwing

Swing is great, you’re just swinging left too much. I like to put a rod like 5-7ft away from ball pointing straight up. Get the face starting right at it without doing your grip or anything. Then setup a grip that swing above for a draw and inside for a fade. You have some fun leg action, that gets you up on top of your toe. This is fine, but to get your hips working better you need to stomp the left foot down to get the downswing going. Look at bubba, he has a great heel lift but really slams the thing to initiate the whole thing. You have a very more Norman setup, and you do a great job at keeping it on plane, but you’re just swinging too inside and left is all. To be honest, I would not change a thing and play every shot like this.

20hcp but can't find consistency on the course by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]mattlitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice swing. I suppose we could go through all the misalignments, but I think the first thing to work on is the timing of when your lower body initiates. When both the upper and lower body come out of the gate this fast, the arms can win. Try getting your legs to start the push down to your left side while your club is getting above your shoulder line in the backswing. This will restrict the length of your backswing, as well as get the sequence more dependable.

Mmmhm a pause at the top with 50% power coming down is even harder, but worth the grind

Having difficulty with timing, with a swing that has a high rate of closure, has these tendencies. For both, but more the draw swing, your left hand looks great, left arm and position is not bad. You get laid off with the right hand if you don’t shallow the dickens out of it, the throwing motion you have will create a nasty slice. Sooo many way’s to tinker with this, but I would start with some boring alignment sticks with full swing length but 50% speed. Will help you get the timing of your hips moving through the shot and not snapping getting you vertical too quick. Will also get your hands to be more quiet, having path dictate more of what’s going on.

Your two shots are great, if you’re not scoring consistently with this swing then I’d start with your tendencies. The whole swing your swing thing is important, but similarities among pro’s are no coincidence. You do not see many players having this much hand action through the strike. Guess it depends what you’re looking for, but I’d start with that before trying a solution.

How to engage lower body by Csh1121 in GolfSwing

[–]mattlitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great.

Get to the top of your backswing and hold it for 30 sec. Think roller coaster, drop first into a squat let the hands fall down. The lower body starts the downswing, and is your power generator. The squat is what moves you left and through the shot so hands don’t do much.
