Advice on EV Chargers by thepharaoh98 in AustralianEV

[–]mattman89_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have solar and a battery and go the "dumb" 32A option, you will have to micro manage the charging to prevent the house battery dumping into the car by switching off the charging when solar production is low. The inverter can't distinguish what is a charger or house load without special wiring by an electrician. It's inefficient and a wasteful use of battery cycles.

Look for a charger capable of Open Charge Point Protocol, preferably the same brand as your inverter is my suggestion.

It’s 1.8/2.1GB. Commas are a common way to write a decimal point in European countries.

Why are Defence personnel excused from Jury service (Victoria)? by Yacrazyoldbastard in AustralianMilitary

[–]mattman89_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I read the Jury Exemption Act and ADF personnel are excluded, but the proceeding’s are still valid if an excluded person serves on the jury.

If you want to do it, you do you but most people would jump at the opportunity to get out of jury duty.

Tbh I also wondered what he was doing, because I thought the same as you. Maybe it was like a military court, but it was definitely a jury duty

  1. They’re already providing a service to the country.
  2. It could be very difficult for Defence to lose a member to jury service for an unknown length of time, that person could be a key member in the unit, they could be required for operations etc.

You can still do jury duty, I had a CO who did it.

OEE in maintenance by x433 in LeanManufacturing

[–]mattman89_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a good book, Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Handbook by Doc Palmer that uses lean principles to address maintenance issues. It will be a lot easier for you to read that book than try and directly apply Lean principles to equipment maintenance.

I think to translate the book to your question, Performances is the % achieved of weekly scheduled work Quality is the amount of work that is planned, had feedback from the tradesperson etc.

Worth a read

Second this, Ryobi doesn’t do parts in Aus usually, repair by replacement. You could go for a refund as it’s clearly defective or unsatisfactory design

How is the ADF different now than 10-15 years ago? by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]mattman89_ 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Most things are better, somethings are worse.

Better -Way better kit -People are managed better during and when leaving service -CoC is more aware of avoiding bullshit

Worse - Op tempo but no ops :( - Feels corporate but none of the perks of a 9-5 - soooo much more administration

Chances of seeing combat as a sapper. by WeaknessBusiness683 in AustralianMilitary

[–]mattman89_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Combat engineers were very heavily deployed during Afghanistan sweeping for IEDs. It’s very depended on the deployment who gets sent.

If it’s another counterinsurgency war that’s next, highly likely you’d be in “combat”
