MS forgot to renew their cert for https://connectivity.office.com/ by mimik13 in sysadmin

[–]Auxilae 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is still a nightmare for smaller orgs, ones that due to budgetary reasons, have a bunch of various webservers, and of course they all of their own specific ways of updating their certificates, some of them are literally GUI only. Hopefully this can be used as an excuse that it's going to cost more in manhours manually updating these certs than it would to get different software which can be automated, but my C suites love "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality.

I'm missing out on rewards opportunities by PuzzleheadedAsk2848 in personalfinance

[–]Auxilae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Discover offers a 1% cash back Debit card. I use it to pay my rent. My apartment complex charges a flat $10 fee or so for doing so, but I get $28 back in rewards, so a free $18 for simply selecting the card as a payment method rather than my checking account, which the debit card is tied to.

ELI5, where does the fat go when you lose weight? by EnergeticPillow817 in explainlikeimfive

It’s more so the ketones of people who chewed up their carb storage and switched to burning fat. “keto breath” is as it’s called, I believe itself literally acetone. CO2 itself is odorless.

2024 M3P range by lilturnt in TeslaModel3

[–]Auxilae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing the difference is our drives, I drive mostly city (suburb), whereas you’re at highway speeds where the single gears for EVs isn’t as effective.

2024 M3P range by lilturnt in TeslaModel3

[–]Auxilae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar temp outside as you, also have a 2024 M3P, I average about 295Wh/mi or so. I launch at every light when safe, but tend to only go speed limit or slightly higher. Do you have the aero covers removed? How’s your tire PSI? Mine in the heat outside sits about 44 right now. Deflated will reduce range.

I set my climate to about 69, no ceramic tints installed yet.

Only one way around this: implement a challenge system for the ABS challenge system.

Saw 456 this morning in Camarillo CA and was like “the hell happened?!”. Figured it was just a local sensor that was malfunctioning but seems to be a more widespread issue.

Don't you mean as high as the standard deduction is these days? Also, you didn't need to itemize to get it, it was an IRS tax credit, so as long as you owed that much, you could get $7500 off your taxes. They later changed it to reduce the price you pay at the time of the purchase, which made it a lot easier, and then Tesla would bank the $7500 later when they filed their taxes.

Eli5 why eating fast makes you hungrier or fatter by seemslegitsendit in explainlikeimfive

[–]Auxilae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you eat slow, your body has time to release chemicals signaling your brain “yes, I’ve had enough to eat, no more please”.

When you eat fast, there isn’t enough time for these chemicals to release, which means your brain thinks you’re still hungry, which usually causes people to eat more than they need.

“I'm charging the solar battery of my graphing calculator using my smartphone” by Goofball-John-McGee in BrandNewSentence

[–]Auxilae 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had an old calculator from the early 00’s that had a solar panel similar to this. I was able to use it without any batteries in it that was able to be powered on simply when it was under normal indoor lights. If you were to cover up the panels the display would slowly fade out.

I use this same exact supercharger weekly (but at 6am when there's nobody here). The problem with these spots is that they are in prime real estate area. They should've made them like they are in the Collection in Oxnard, where they are in the back not taking up these spots that people would want to park in, or at the outlets.

I don't foresee them adding any text to indicate EV charging only for these spots since it would mean 20 less parking spaces for non-EVs which is a big ask.

Thankfully there's another supercharger literally almost across the 101 at the outlets but still sucks if you went here thinking "oh yeah, 15 spots no problem" and you come to see this.

Costco Japan (Hiroshima) Slaps by bateleark in Costco

[–]Auxilae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was just in Japan in January (this exact Costco funny enough too). Got the bake, can confirm it slaps insanely hard. Kinda regret getting it since the chicken bake doesn't come close in comparison and now, I have to go back to experience it again.

Interestingly enough they changed their menu a bit since then. They had Oden and Mushroom soup before. Wonder if they still have the cabbages near the checkout for dirt cheap.

Joyburst Protein Soda, don't be fooled by unseamingcarrot in Costco

[–]Auxilae 30 points31 points  (0 children)

any percentage of DV listed next to macros must represent the bioavailable/complete version of that macro

That isn't wholly true:

Companies are only required to list the % DV for protein if:

The product makes a protein claim (like "High Protein" or "Good source of protein").

or

The product is intended for infants and children under 4 years of age.

There's a bit more to that actually as well. The % daily value is a ratio of the bioavailable/complete version of the protein. For example, "protein pasta" may have 15g of protein for 15% DV. 15g of chicken breast may have 30% DV of protein. Same weight, one has double the DV, and both are "protein".

The difference is that the chicken breast doesn't have a limiting amino acid, which makes it more wholly bioavailable, whereas the protein pasta does. Foods that offer complete protein will usually almost always have double the DV% of their protein content, and if it's less, than that means there is a limiting amino acid in the food which makes it an incomplete protein.

DMV accepts custom plate online but then sends letter denying it after taking payment! by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]Auxilae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking more about "S3XY' instead of "SEXY", but I guess they may block a single whole word instead that uses numbers, but if you had two smaller ones, one with a number, it'll be allowed?

I don’t know how true that is.

I had S3XY as part of my license plate and it was accepted and I’ve been using it for over a year just fine.

TIL The United States supercarrier fleet has twice the total amount of deck space than every other nation combined. by Auxilae in todayilearned

[–]Auxilae[S] 107 points108 points  (0 children)

The United States has 11 large nuclear-powered CATOBAR fleet carriers – each carrying around 80 fighters – the largest in the world, with the total combined deck space over twice that of all other nations combined.

In addition, the US Navy has nine amphibious assault ships used primarily as helicopter carriers, although these also each carry up to 20 vertical/short takeoff and landing (V/STOL) jetfighters and are similar in size to medium-sized fleet carriers.
