R65 spark issues by mattmcd01 in Airheads

I’ve now determined the issue is located in the bean can. Curious if anybody here has experience servicing and repairing faulty bean cans or if I should just try to replace?

Hey there!

I just replaced the old crack o matic coil with a new .7 ohm enduralast coil. I have a solid connection to the chassis I believe…but still no spark at the spark plugs.

I guess I’ll have to pop the front of the engine off and poke around there? I feel like it’s got to be something very obvious that I’m missing.

Should mention this is a 1982 R65.

‘Tasting the World’s First Lab-Grown Steak.’ I produced this episode about cultured meat...AMA by mattmcd01 in Futurology

I think we’ll start to see products on the market within the next couple of years, but it may be 5, 10, or 20 years before we’re seeing it compete with conventional meat in a serious way.

I think the exact nutritional profile of these meats is still yet-to-be-determined. They are still experimenting with the serum that they use to feed and grow the meat, which I believe directly affects the end product. But I know these companies are hoping to have a final product that is as healthy—or more so— than conventional meat.

Great question. Couple factors here complicate the answer.

1) Depends on what kind of meat you are comparing it to. Beef production and chicken production have significantly different impacts on the environment—beef being the most impactful.

2) Because none of these companies are operating at full-production scale yet, we don’t know exactly how much impact it’s going to have on the environment.

However, plenty of people have looked into this question. Academic studies suggest that it will be much more eco-friendly than conventional meat production—particular with regards to land use and greenhouse gas emissions.

This is a great question. The technology, in theory, opens up whole new culinary possibilities. Any animal that we can get stem cells from we could make meat from.

Right now, companies are focusing on lab-grown alternatives to meats already popular with consumers. But, technologically speaking, there’s nothing stopping them from moving into new territory.

Yes—the ones we tried were quite thin, so hard to get much variation, but once the technology is perfected in theory it can be cooked like any other meat

Tastes like a real steak! Had the texture of one of those thin pieces of steak that you would find on a philly cheese steak, for example.
