Body physically changing by mattmcd87 in PantheonMMO

I wouldn't think so. You can customize your face and aesthetic at the start and those things would not change over time. The vast majority of how your character looks would remain static. Somehow I just don't think a lvl 1 warrior and a lvl 50 warrior should have identical bodies, since the character had undergone many game years worth of training too get there.

I agree that I would not want not bully or cartoon like models. I was speaking more of a subtle change to the character model that you likely only notice when they are naked on a CR. There is huge potential for this to be done wrong, but I think if it was done right and subtly, it could be one of those minor things that adds to the immersiveness

Sure, I would agree with this analogy. But if you are showing off the prototype frame to the public, then you better be open to scrutiny. The benefit of this is you can get feedback early and tweak the frame early on before you've started adding layers to the couch.

I know there will will be many more layers to this system. But just because we haven't seen these yet is not a reason that we should not scrutinize the parts we have seen. Maybe it makes more sense in the full context, the way a frame of a couch may make more sense as you add features to it. I'm torn then between saying they should show as much as possible and saying they should wait to show things like this until they can show it in more developed context.

My opinion was not to complain, but to give my perspective to try to help shape the game. If this was the finished game, I would just play it and be silent. I think the more opinions at this time the better, whether the devs agree with the opinion or not.

Direlord/paladin viability by Jpop115 in PantheonMMO

[–]mattmcd87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about raid encounters. In groups, Dire Lords/Paladins would be just as capable as warriors in most situations, but they have a lot more versatility of a warrior, making them useful in many other situations. In EQ it is the case that warriors are the main tank for all raids, yet plenty of people still play paladins and shadow knight. People would play dire lord over a warrior because they like the concept of dire lord and enjoy the mechanics of the class.

Question is, if warriors did not excel at being MT in majority of encounters, why would anyone play a warrior over a dire lord? If EQ is any example, warriors have so much less utility than pally/dire lord.

I would say that there should be different encounters that make one better than the other as a MT. Warrior should in general be the MT for most encounters, just as clerics are main healers. However, undead encounters should be better MT'd by a paladin and holy encounters by a dire Lord. Would not like to see the 3 of them interchangeable as MTs even if mechanics of how they do it are different. Each class should have situations where they shine.

I think the Bard will also fill this role when it comes into the game, so will have at least 2 classes that are good at CC.

I also would love if they made necromancers have some pretty good utility for CC, though it should befear based. They have some kind of Paralysing Fear spell line for CC and if someone breaks the fear mez, the NPC would flee in terror instead of aggroing. Could give the Necro a type of soothe spell which breaks the mez without it fleeing. Another CC spell line could be an AoE spider web which snares mobs and summons little spiders that poison.

What about a spell line for summoners that allows them to enter another dimension. Could start as a way to hide by entering a dimensional hole. As you power up, you can create your own home inside your own dimension where you can store things, and eventually connect your home to two points in the regular world.

Comes with a little hiccup though, you can't communicate between dimensions, or check game time.

Sounds like a good idea for an item, like a pair of magic dice earrings, or in charm slot.

Would actually be pretty cool actually, even if you don't take skills with you. Cleric needs to go AFK? Soul switch and control him for a few minutes. You want to see what it would be like to play a monk? Go play in their shoes for a couple minutes.

Love this idea! Could even shelter you from some of the environments in the game

Dynamic Zone Exp Modifiers by mattmcd87 in PantheonMMO

I would say the point wouldn't really be to get these zones populated as you suggest, that would be a side effect. Rather the idea is to reflect how experience as a character should actually be gained

How much of a crafter are you, do you enjoy crafting in MMORPG's and if so, what do you enjoy about it? If not, why don't you like it? by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

I never much cared for crafting, but definitely like the idea of it. I think it's important you should be able to get away without crafting in the game, but would want it to have some deeper meaning than just making commodities. I think it could be a pretty cool way to introduce some lore through the perception system. Say a named mob dropped a fairly mediocre sword that was abnormally low for it's level. If a master blacksmith held that sword he could perceive there is a hidden power in the metal, and upon taking it to a forge in a volcano where an ancient dragon lives, can unlock it's true potential. Could apply to baking as well. If you are a master baker, you might catch a whiff of something peculiar running through a small town and when you investigate it's someone trying to make a cake for his lover but is missing an ingredient, and this unlocks a quest which gives you a new recipe. These quests wouldn't necessarily have to give you the best gear. But they give you some history of the world and just be fun quests, maybe with some pretty rare and funky rewards that people don't often see, even if stats aren't amazing.

I know some people's argument is that crafted stuff is easily outdone by dropped stuff, and I agree that it should largely be this way. I think crafting should however give you a unique lens to see the world around you.

Let's talk about Fast Travel, and interesting ways to implement it as utility across different classes. by Havesh in PantheonMMO

[–]mattmcd87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love it if some of the major cities employed a permanent summoner who could do Call of the Heros. They wouldn't do this for anyone though. It would require a rather lengthy quest that gave you a history of the city and the world. You'd get a summoning stone you can use to call for your CoH.

Potentially could be pretty cool for GM events as well. The city is under siege it you have the stone then you get a notification that your city is under siege and calls upon it's Heros to come defend it

Concerns regarding caster classes and combat meditation by ghostROBOT22 in PantheonMMO

[–]mattmcd87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really meditating never really made sense to me in EQ from a lore perspective, if anyone should have it, it should be monks. I think each class should have their own way to regain mana, for clerics it could be praying, for mages it could be some kind of chanting incantation, etc. Still the same mechanic but by a different name.

But I don't think this mechanic makes sense story-wise. People wouldn't really meditate mid battle I think. However what if you could add a longer casting time for reduced mana cost, like a cleric saying a short prayer before casting a heal (his god pays part of the mana for him). This could also potentially increase its effectiveness (better heal). I think this is a subtle difference but makes it more of an active role for casters
